TC Advice please

Hey Guys

I have a Fuchai 213 and have always used kanthol and SS316 in wattage mode. I have been hearing good things about TC. I currently have some sleeper SS316 coils installed and just switched to TC mode (I have been using wattage for the past week) is that ok to do?

Is TC safer when using SS? Can I switch between the two as and when I wish? Is it really as simple as just playing with the temperature to whatever i like?

Hi @RyanOtekki. I take it sleeper coils are big ass things with multiple wires, are they? If so, they may not work very well in TC mode, especially if they are very low resistance. Although that depends on the mod to some extent. I know of some people who manage to get a decent TC vape from 316L coils under 0.1 ohms on DNA 200/250 mods. The Fuchai 213 however has been shown to be extremely poor at TC irrespective of the build, to the extent that it simply doesn't work in TC mode.
You can switch between TC and wattage mode with 316L SS no problem and yes, it is just a case of playing around with the wattage and temp settings to find what works best for you. Do you have any other TC mods?

thanks for the reply. I say sleeper coils, i may be wrong... Afraid I'm not an expert with terminology. I have added a photo! My resistance is 0.14. My main reason for swiching to tc IS i have heard things about SS wire giving off some nasty stuff if used incorrectly?
If the fuchai is no good, maybe i will stick to power mode, hows the smok alien for TC?

I just looked up sleeper builds. They use one continuous wire to form dual coils. Is that what you have? Doesn't really matter too much. The main thing is the finished resistance and at 0.14, it's a bit low for most mods to handle accurately in TC mode with SS. Typically you want to be up in the 0.3 ohm region for accuracy of TC with SS.
Sadly the Alien is also very poor at TC. At least mine is. Some others have reported their Aliens to fare ok in TC.
I wouldn't worry about using 316L SS in wattage mode. It's safe enough, but you don't want to dry burn it as aggressively as you might Kanthal. Just glow it gently at 10 watts or so.

I just looked up sleeper builds. They use one continuous wire to form dual coils without the halving of the resistance of typical dual coil set ups. Is that what you have? Doesn't really matter too much. The main thing is the finished resistance and at 0.14, it's a bit low for most mods to handle accurately in TC mode with SS. Typically you want to be up in the 0.3 ohm region for accuracy of TC with SS.

Ok awesome! I have made the mistake of dry burning a little hard, not as much as i do with kanthol but I was at 60w and got them to slightly glow red. I will replace them Monday.Hopefully I'm ok to carry on using them since doing that...?

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it meantime but maybe being a little more gentle from now on would be wise.

I don't know of any "Nasties" an SS coil could give off, certainly not at vaping temperatures, discolouration of the wire isn't a significant issue - or even really an issue at all - I'd be more worried about running at high wattages - vaping very hot builds does increase the risk of inhaling thermal decomposition byproducts like formaldehyde from your juice, but even then that only reallly becomes an issue if your straying into the territory where you start to get dry hits.
That's fairly hefty wire you've used there - for reliable TC you need to get your builds higher in resistance perhaps a thinner guage wire would help. Also you'll find Smok mods are pretty poor at TC as is the Fuchai. I'd also advise against using a sleeper build - with that velocity style deck it simply isn't required, just build two normal coils and install them...
