Temp control or something else with the coil?

This is not an easy 1-2-3 issue. I've talked to a lot of people about it. I've had people look at the issue. I'm posting here because I am not certain it is a tc issue but it's worth a try.

I am exclusively a temp control user. I started vaping on an istick 100w (18650s) 3 months ago. I have a crown uwell and just bought a cyclone sense (like a herakles). I use .2 ni coils. I clean my tank regularly with warm soapy water. I change my coil regularly. I use juices that are usually 70/30 or therabouts.

The problem: I will put in a new coil. I get a nice, clean draw with good airflow. That will last as long as I vape continuously. As soon as I leave the tank sitting and come back to it, I get a flavorless, tight draw. To restore it, I have to open the top of the tank and close it again. When I do that I see a few bubbles come up in the tank. Of course, normally when you vape, bubbles come up after each vape, or draw on the tank. This is true both for the crown and the cyclone. This is true with the TKO juice, juice rollupz, and Time Bomb Juilius.

This problem just started recently. So I changed to a new coil. Then I changed to another coil in a new box of coils. I had no improvement. I tried switching from one tank to the other and had the same problem. So it's happening in both tanks. When I took it to the shop, we put the crown tank on two different mods and had the same problem on the other mods.

However, the problem did not happen with a .25 wattage coil for a full tank of juice. We changed to a .25 coil at the shop. I took it home and vaped a whole tank. I burned out the coil after 1-1/2 tanks at 50 watts. I hate watts.

To recap, I had no problem vaping the same juices on the same tank with the same coils earlier on. I've tried changing the coils, even opening new boxes of coils. I'm verifying QR codes on the boxes. I'm getting this problem on two different tanks. I'm getting it when I switch tanks to different mods. This is happening after I leave the tank sitting after a coil change.

I hope I've covered everything. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like maybe it's not wicking properly. Try pricking the cotton with a pin to open it up a bit.

Dan, Thanks for your reply. I am going to try that. My only comment is, how is this happening with every coil and with two different tanks and different juices? - keshazel

Dan, thanks for this idea. I tried it. It did not work. I did not think it would because I am getting a clear draw every time I open/close the cap and this is happening on every coil and on two tanks, and with the tanks on different mods. I'm starting to consider buying a new setup.

Wicking! Are these pre made coils or are you building your own?
These are pre-made coils. And I had no problem with ones I purchased for months. This just started happening. And it's happening with coils on two tanks.

Well, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the coils are consistently badly made (eg too much wick).

I'm a bit confused about your description of getting a tight draw after leaving the tank to sit. Is it flooding - do you get gurgling and/or leaking? If something's obstructing the airflow, it can only be juice right? This might point to a missing or damaged o-ring somewhere. Do you close the juice flow control when it's not in use?

I'm not intimately familiar with the tank, just had a quick look at the design on youtube. The lack of bubbles rising and your short term fix of unscrewing and replacing the top cap initially made me think of a wicking problem (or a juice flow problem, you have the juice flow control open while vaping right?), but another possibility is there is a defective seal somewhere. This would let air into the tank from somewhere else (so you might not see bubbles) and also cause flooding (causing juice to get into the airflow, and a flooded coil doesn't produce much vapour).

Basically, do you think the coil is too dry or too wet?

im guessing 80vg/20pg ratio then.
this happened to me on all 3 coils in the crown box. they lasted 5 days in total.
changed to 70/30 and coils are lasting 2-3 weeks.

This is most likely a wicking problem, either to thick a juice or too much wicking, from the descrition you've given though it could be that you're just not getting juice flow to the wick, the bubbles appearing when you loosen the top point to a release of the negative pressure in the tank allowing juice to flow back and wet the coil...
Try to ensure that the juice flow is fully open and that the airflow is set to the lowest setting, this will ensure a certain amount of negative pressure when you take a draw on the atomiser, which should in turn ensure juice is pulled from the tank into the wick.

As others have said, it seems most li!ely to be a wicking problem, possibly aggravated by the particular juice you're using. As an experiment, you could try diluting with a little PG, vodka or distilled water. Might spoil the vape, but at least it'd confirm the nature of the problem.
