Testing Nicotine

Thought I'd test some of the different nicotine I have. I didnt test for actual conc as the nic test kits available can only test for how much actual base (alkali) present and could be easily fooled. So had to rely on the suppliers stated conc

I mixed up 6mg at 30pg/70vg. As a control I used plain 30pg/70vg.

Vaped at about 1ohm. The nic was bought with my own money.

I wanted to determine the flavour and if there was any difference between them.

The nic in the center is colourless, left slightly yellow, right most yellow in colour.

First i vaped the zero nic. Followed by the rest.

Guess what?






















No difference between them or very little in terms of flavour or pepperyness. All tasted to be the same strength.It was quite interesting as i now know what good nic shud taste like.

Have you tried them at higher strength, obviously not in a dripper unless your using higher ohms. I found the first batch of nic I got only tasted peppery above 12mg+. I used to vape 18mg with it and it was really peppery. When I used it to mix 6mg it was alright though.

I only tested at 6mg cos that's the max for me. Good idea to test at higher conc. May do it when I get time. They all tasted so similar I couldnt really tell them apart. If anything the middle one Pirates vape PG nic was smoother than the other 2, but it's really subjective.

Main reason for this test was that I got a load of nic from one supplier and convinced myself it was crap. So needed to compare it to the best nic I could get.

I was told buy the supplier that VG nic and PG nic will both store as well as each other, as long as kept in freezer, in glass, with minimal air gap and well sealed but you need to start off with as good and as fresh nic as possible.

They told me reason that VG nic always is slightly yellow is that the nic reacts with iron in the VG, this does not affect the quality.

Will get some more of the PV nic to store as they supply in 5 x 200ml amber glass and their stuff is good, probably the best.

Testing for taste is as useful as any, particularly as it set your mind at rest about a potentially dodgy supply.
EthelKing, one of the mods here, can provide you with a testing kit. I used it for a recent bulk purchase as that nic would be doing me for years, so I wanted to confirm that it was good stuff, at the stated strength. It's also worthwhile asking for the MSDS sheet for the batch your nic came from.

To be fair, stories of bad nic are pretty rare ... given the amount apes are buying, to see just a handful of complaints over the time I've been here is very reassuring.

Im using Pirates stuff now after the disgusting first batch I got from elsewhere, Id prefer to pay more then end up with 200ml of unvapable juice. Must have been why it was on Sale, still not cheap though £10 100ml i think i paid. Tempted to try Darkstar for the price of 500ml though. But I like the Pirates stuff, it'll be hard to use anything else.

I bet if you increase the Strength to 18mg you'll get a difference if its bad. I done a few tests with my old stuff and it was alright up to about 14mg then over that very peppery. If its fine at 6mg though theres no worries.
