Day two of Digbys week at The Grumpy Vaper continues.
Yesterday TGV reviewed five of Digbys e-liquids to a high overall score of 8.75/10 here.
Tomorrow's competition brings a chance to win a previously unreleased Digbys e-liquid - more details on that later.
Friday, TGV brings you an in-depth video interview with the man behind the brand - Sam Cox. There's lots of good stuff in there including a look at the newly renovated mixing laboratory. How does Sam develop his e-liquids? What's next for Digbys? What's his favourite cheese? Find out on Friday.
For now, let's plough a furrow through the remaining Digbys e-liquids.
Let's saddle up and vape! Five down... Five to go!
Apple & Cinnamon Pudding:
Quite simply, Apple & Cinnamon Pudding from Digbys is sublime and up there with the best e-liquids I've reviewed so far at TGV. It's been my constant companion since I first tried it back in October, and it'll take pride of place in my essential e-liquids drawer, as long as Digbys carry on with business as usual. It's as comforting as the best cup of tea and isn't challenging in any way at all - Apple & Cinnamon Pudding just nails each individual flavour perfectly and then balances them to a genius level. Ultimately, I don't need to be challenged by an ADV e-liquid, I just need a juice that does what it says on the label and does it brilliantly. Apple & Cinnamon Pudding is all about comforting, warming flavours and takes me back to the amazing puddings my Grandma made for me as a kid. Autumnal, well-ripened apples give way to mild wonderfully spiced cinnamon on the inhale, then on the exhale a subtle creamy custard and an undertone of a fantastic bakery pudding flavour, subtle yet totally original tasting compared the myriad of samey "bakery" flavours out there. This is like a real suet pudding flavour, but not so heavy you feel like you're eating tons of artery clogging evil. I keep going back to this e-liquid again and again and I thank Digbys for giving me the chance to try this and for giving me a great food memory about good times long since past. When e-liquid is this good it can be powerful stuff for the soul as well as the flavour. Vapour production is great, but this juice isn't about the clouds, it's about swaddling you in a comfort blanket and just allowing you a moment to relax and say, "Ahhhh, fuck it!" Apple & Cinnamon Pudding comes with the highest TGV recommendation - it's an essential purchase.
El Cadejo:
From the comforting to the exotic, El Cadejo is the new kid on the Digbys block and it's one for those who dig their clouds bro, clouds. El Cadejo is a 90/VG/10PG tincture and is currently lubed up on a 0.5 ohm stock Atlantis coli running at 38 watts on my Vapor Flask and yeah, the clouds are thick, voluminous and foggy - but what about the flavour? Surely with such a high VG e-liquid flavour must take a bit of a beating? Well surprisingly, the answer is no. El Cadejo is for flavour junkies just as much for cloudchasers, that is if you're in the market for a, "Sweet Nopales (cactus pad) with Mexican berries.. complimented with a little tingle." Nopales have been used in Mexican food for hundreds of years and with the rise of real Mexican cuisine in the UK, we're slowly coming round to the idea of chewing on something spikey! In El Cadejo, Nopales lend a light, sweet, tropical florality to the vape - the berries coming through on the exhale to give a little acidic levity and again very good balance. Not to sweet, not too sour and there is a mild sense of tingle to brighten up and give a real refreshing mouth feel after you've been vaping a while. I'd love to be able to be a bit more harsh in my criticism of Digbys Juices at this point, but it would be totally unwarranted. This is a 3mg strength nicotine bottle, so the throat hit is slight. El Cadejo provides clouds by the steam train load, but also plenty of flavour, which for me is more essential.
Hooligan:
In comparison to the proceeding e-liquids, Hooligan comes with a tinge of disappointment. Where Sam has previously balanced his juices from Digbys brilliantly, some of the flavours in this e-liquid are slightly muddled, each individual fruit seems to be jostling for the limelight, rather than coalescing in harmony. "...sweet with a lingering tingle. Cherry, lemon, oranges and limes combined with a bit of fizz." Cherry is the leading flavour for me, but there's something about the way the other fruits mix together that give a very slightly medicinal quality, which I'm not a big fan of. Hooligan is by no means a bad e-liquid, but when it's placed amongst such gems it's left a little lacking and wouldn't be a juice I'd order again. That said, the bottle is now finished and your mileage may vary. Again, cloud coverage is decent, but it's no El Cadejo!
