Here are a few pics and a bit of info on my latest project.
Details:
SX350 100W chipset
FDV 28.5mm Spring loaded Bottom Feed 510
Turnigy 2200mAh 2S 7.4V battery ([email protected])-removable.
20ml Juice Bottle
Hand made solid wood body (not sure which wood it is, I will endeavor to find out-answers on a postcard!) Oiled and finished down to 12,000grit
Alumium polished back panel with magnetic mounting
61mm X 45mm X 115mm
How this came about(The ramble!)
I had a long weekend come clear, and as I am still waiting for Hobbyking to restock the batteries I need for other boxes, I decided a build for me was in order.
As luck would have it my bottom feed kits have turned up, and the Aventador with bottom feed so finally I had a chance to play with squonking.
I have been wanting a squonker for some time, I have played with the Reo and the Laik and both have issues for me(I didn't even bother looking at the firebox after all the problems). My main issue is that neither would really run a proper cloud chasing set-up 50W+ and neither had the battery life for blowing big clouds for any length of time.
For me, squonking makes even more sense with a cloud chasing set-up. So why not be able to run it that way.
I have made the battery removable as on-board charging would be a nightmare to incorporate, and also to allow carrying of a spare battery if required.
I was initially going to build with a 60A raptor but availability has narrowed the choice to 20A raptor or SX, the SX350 100W seemed to make more sense. The SX is working great and really allows for fine tuning the vape even at high power which is great for getting more flavour, I am very happy with this chip! The tilt sensor is great, once you get used to it, and allows for nice clean look!
I also thought a nice big bottle made more sense - I can burn through 10ml easily enough dripping at a vape session. I was aiming for 30ml but couldn't quite find room for that.
This one is basically a test run, it still needs a little more finishing when I get another couple of hours to sit at the buffer-I may give the back panel a brushed or satin finish not sure on that yet.
I am currently negotiating with a family member to make a few of these wood boxes up as he is far more gifted than me with wood! Also I am hoping our friendly aluminum box wizard might be interested in having a play!
So basically I am considering making a few more. So, I welcome everyone's thoughts good or bad! Is this the most pointless MOD yet?
Hope you all like it.
The wood has an amazing finish to it and a lovely ripple effect running through- I hope this shows up a bit better on this photo
Big box-big 510!
Lots of stuff even for a big box!
Spare bottles and batteries I doubt even raguri could run dry!
Size comparison with my 1590B Raptor Box
Good job I have giant abused hands!!
Those with a keen(registered blind) eye will of spotted the dent on one corner- I managed to complete all of the woodwork, inc screen cut outs etc, without a single mark on the box and perfect corners, then during oiling the wood I managed to drop the box
Back off to enjoy using my dripper producing huge clouds without any dripping!
