My girlfriend is breastfeeding and use to smoke cigarettes. I am wondering if it is okay for her to vape 0mg and still breastfeed if that is going to be harmful for the baby if anyone knows about this.

Thank you in advance

I’m no doctor but I think 0mg whould be ok as it’s just VG/PG and flavourings but I’m sure more people can give you better answer than I just have

I breast fed all 3 of my sons while I was a smoker. I was told by their pediatrician to make sure I did not smoke 30 mins to an hour before feeding them if possible to minimize nicotine exposure. And if I could, try and wait til after I fed the baby then smoke. And by time the baby is hungry again the nicotine will be coming out of my system.

So 0mg will be fine, and if she is absolutely having a major nicotine fit
She can have a little of your nic'ed juice hit from your mod AFTER she has fed the baby to curb that need, and by time the baby needs to eat again it will be out of her system.

I don't think anyone does really know for sure. It's probably unlikely but there are chemicals in some flavourings I wouldn't want to risk myself.

I wouldn't want to tell you it's OK, if you really must then I would recommend unflavoured VG/PG to be on the safe side.

@Anthony Nader my Wife is still breastfeeding our 11 month old - she vaped all through her pregnancy after checking with her midwife, and uses 6mg. We were still smokers when we had our first child, she didn't smoke during that pregnancy until a couple of weeks to go when she could take no more and caved in. She continued to smoke for the first six months whilst breastfeeding before moving to vaping. I'm of the opinion that very little nicotine will be transferred via her milk, especially at 6mg strength - vaping is certainly better for them both than smoking!

Vaping > smoking

Toxins and CO produced by cigarettes are linked to pre-term delivery, low weight and ongoing issues.

Latest (albeit small) study found no impact of vaping on birth weight or pre-term compared to not smoking.

Nicotine from vaping has to be balanced out with how wired she’d be from missing it from fags.

Ultimately, she should make the choice she’s comfortable with and discuss it with her midwife. Midwives have been instructed to take a non-judgemental approach to discussing smoking/vaping during pregnancy.

Tag me in a reply if you need to and I’ll link you to studies and stuff when I’m sober - it’s Thursday night online game night :D

Thanks for the advice, I figured it would be okay since theres no nic but was a llittle edgy if there were other toxins or metals that can harm the baby....But like You said I can let her vape 0mg right after feeding to be on the safe side.

thanks for the advice really helps me out to know that others have done the same thing....I think with 0mg she will be okay especially if she vapes right after feeding.

I think personally I’d be more worried about flavourings than nic. But maybe I’m a bit paranoid. My wife is breastfeeding the wee one at the minute. She doesn’t vape, and hasn’t smoked since long before she got pregnant. But if she did vape, I think my preference would be unflavoured liquid with some nic in it.

But for sure vaping is much preferable to smoking fags.
