From the thread title it isn’t exactly a secret to what I’ve been taking a look at over the last couple weeks kindly sent over by vaporesso, their latest dual cell mod, the GEN.
The last couple of dual cell mods from @Vaporesso have really been quite good, the polar & revenger x & the luxe which I still use all the time, love the board and the way it performs in that.
So what is it? A dual 18650, 220w device , utilising a new board, Vaporesso are calling the Axon an evolution of their stellar omni board. This time incorporating 4 button operation, your power, mode select, up & down. Housing the board is a very lightweight body weighing just over 100g and measuring 93.5 x 27 x 53mm, cover the body is what Vaporesso state is a 4 stage coating process, which has a nice smooth rubberised finish , which they claim to be scratch and fire resistant. The Gen is currently available in 4 colours, the silver, black blue and red, the red and blue have a faded appearance
(stock image as I don't have the others)
Up top you have your 510 ss I assume with a copper/rose gold coloured accent top, hasn’t affected anything or created any resistance fluctuations etc
Battery compartment is accessed by taking off the removable door, inside, couple of spring loaded connections and your battery ribbon
On the face of the mod you have your power button, which is also the same copper/rose gold colour of the 510
Underneath that is the screen a standard black and white display, a bit of a contrast in approach to the last one on the luxe, All relevant info is nicely laid out though
The Axon is navigated via the 3 buttons, you’ve the power up & down for the wattage and scrolling the menu and the addition of a mode/select button
The Axon is packed with features and different modes. Turning it on and off is the obligatory 5 clicks, with a 3 click combo of the power button locking the device
Getting into the menu is 3 clicks of the middle mode button
Entering first stage menu, you’ll get the options of pulse mode, anyone thats been around will remember the “rattlesnake” or “helicoptering” effect when a board wasn’t as capable of hitting the higher watt range, a bit like a pwm board mod, so it pulses every 0.02 seconds.
Power eco, for getting the most out of your batteries.
Smart tc, is going to automatically detect your coil and give you a recommended starting point.
DIY mode, this is where your more standard functions are going to be, variable wattage mode(soft standard and hard), normal tc, variable voltage mode & ccw, which is your custom wattage curves.
Bypass and super player mode for all those super low builds
Back out of the diy menu and you have your system settings, puff counter, screen flip, brightness adjustment & finally what firmware you have
So that’s the overview, now is it any good?
The GEN feels great in the hand, even from my initial thought of first seeing it, it kind of reminded me of the ipv 5, with the simplistic aesthetic.
The rubberised finish is silky smooth and the additional grippy textured doors, means its going nowhere. It also feels really well made, no rattles from the buttons and the battery door fits like a glove, no movement there, what so ever & it’s very light, especially for a dual cell mod, it doesn’t feel cumbersome at all
When I found it was a new board I was slightly concerned as I thought the omni boards were some of the best available, however the AXON is more of an upgrade than something totally different it has all the features of the omni and a little more, also feels more refined. Power delivery is still straight away in vw mode , but as I said a little bit more refined. The best added feature is the pulse mode, gives you that power you sometimes need with certain builds, It’s that hexohm type of delivery, I hope with an update they bring out different pulse modes where that pulse is adjusted or even better would a totally user adjustable pulse
With excellent build quality and the simplistic look, easy navigable menu and great performance I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these devices at all
Cheers to @Vaporesso for sending this over and thanks for reading
