Vaporesso Target Mini II with VM Tank 22 Review

This is Vaperesso's follow up for the very popular Target Mini with some welcome upgrades.
One Line Review
Compact, pocket friendly mod & tank kit with a long lasting coil life and lots of features making it ideal for beginners.There are a few cons but it is a solid MTL or DTL all-rounder.

In the Box
The first thing that strikes you is the weight of this little bundle. All the contents listed above come in a well-presented package, and includes full specs on the back which is refreshing. Small things like the high quality USB cable impressed me and it all comes ready to go, so I popped the mod on charge and went on to prime the coil in the tank.
So what's new?
The Target Mini II is equipped with a 2000mAh battery that lasts 50% longer than the original Target Mini, and delivers even richer flavours with the improved VM tank. It’s larger than the original mainly due to it's higher capacity battery and new chipset.
Size:
The screen is disappointing as it’s very hard to read behind it’s darkened plastic cover and it is nearly impossible to see outdoors. I also found it had too much information crammed onto such a small screen, but I could see the important information so this didn’t become an issue for me. Once you’ve adjusted the settings to your preference, you never really need to look at it, in fact it was only when changing the coil that I needed to adjust anything.
The menu system is very simple with its 3 button adjustment. Despite the buttons being small, I still found I could easily navigate using my thumb and it is all very intuitive. Simply hold down the confirm button to enter the settings then the up/down buttons to navigate with the confirm button used to enter the settings, up/down to adjust then confirm. The options are fairly basic and easy to use:

Battery life is better than I expected with it's inbuilt 2,000mAh cell which can last all day, especially with the 1.0 Ohm coil.
Base – Superb & Daft!
Superb is the battery vent which features a fine mesh to prevent pocket lint etc. entering the mod, a great feature and a big pro there.
Daft is something I cannot get my head around! There are 2 chamfers on the base which makes it very unstable when you have the tank on. You have to ensure you place it down and balanced on the flat area. Upon testing placing it down quickly, it fell over more often than not. Even when you have it stood up, the slightest knock will send it over. It is something I’ve got used to and is not a deal breaker, but it’s still annoying when it does fall over just because a designer thought a chamfer would ‘look or feel nice’.
**I need to stress mine is a SAMPLE and this might not be in the production release**

The version I received was the silver which, as you can see from my photos, isn’t a good match. The other colour options look far better with the correctly colour coded anodising. I personally like the Black option.
VM Tank Review
VM Tank
For a stock coil tank, it appears over engineered with a lot of components, and you need the included tool to strip it down completely to clean. It is also heavy for it's size (50g) being mostly metal (SS), though it has it's benefits of being protected. Coil replacement is super easy as it is a simple case of pull out the old and push in the new.
It is a nice looking tank and has been well machined. The top cap has a nice fillet curve with a thin gold coloured ring below. I have tried the Stainless Steel coloured one on some of my other smaller mods and suits most. It’s style is quite contemporary so it is a good match for most devices.
The airflow has a nice range for MTL (Mouth To Lung) and DTL (Direct To Lung). The airflow control ring has just the right amount of tension and stays where you set it . The drip tip is a 510 delrin wide bore which can be changed to suit your preferences. I found a narrow bore better for MTL and the stock one spot on for DTL Mesh coil.
The top fill is achieved by simply unscrewing the top cap to expose a reasonable sized, kidney shaped juice port. The top cap seal on my sample version didn’t seal properly and was always wet inside, however it never leaked and this is likely to be rectified in the production release. The viewport window is just perfect and you can see your juice level right down to the bottom. The coil juice ports are also set low so you can almost run it right down if you aren’t able to refill it.
The coils are the biggest pro of this bundle, they last so long! I usually like to kill one coil before I test the other but after three weeks of the MTL 1.0 Ohm coil, it was showing no signs of giving up so I had to swap to the mesh for the sake of finishing this review. The 0.6 Ohm Mesh coil is also lasting well. In fact the 1.0 Ohm coil is the longest lasting coil for Nic Salts that I have tried. Changing coils is simple and fast, unscrew the base and you simply pull the old coil out and drop a new one in without threads then screw the base back on.
Flavour on the coils is pretty good. The 1.0 Ohm MTL coil delivers a little better than the 0.6 Ohm DTL Mesh coil but both can handle thicker 70/30 juices easily and I never had a dry hit, even at the higher end of the coils wattage range (and above).
Overall impressions
Though it has no ground-breaking features and has a few flaws, it’s still a good little kit. There’s a certain appeal to having a mini mod, though the rise of the POD systems have taken over somewhat. It’s still good to have a proper mod with all the features that go with it which PODS lack, and with its 50 watts power and different TC settings, you have more choice of vape styles and can customise it a lot more. It handles sub ohm vaping easily and produces good clouds if that’s your thing but for me it hasn’t stood out of the crowd.
If I was just starting out as a new vaper, I would have been very chuffed with this kit as it has everything you could need. You can try MTL or DTL, and even learn Temperature Control. This is what I would class as a great choice for a starter kit and, with its exceptional coil life, it’s going to be cheap to run.
Size comparison with the Eleaf Pico Grande and the Vapbus Triton which are the smallest tank mods I own. It’s lighter than the Pico Grande (mostly due to the large battery) and it sits nicely in the compact mod range but has far more features.

Pros
If this was my first ever vape kit I would be over the moon with it, but as an experienced vaper I found nothing special about this kit apart from the superb coil life. Would I buy one? With my huge collection probably not. Would I recommend it as a starter kit? Absolutely.

- Preheat VW S= Soft, VW N = Normal & VW H = Hard
- Variable Voltage (VV) for those who prefer voltage mode.
- TC Settings include SS (Stainless Steel), NI (Nickel) & Titanium
- M1 & M2 for your own custom TC settings
- BP – Bypass mode (which acts like a mechanical mod)
- CCW for custom power curve setting.
- SET is for adjusting the date & Time settings.
- 3 x Clicks of the fire button locks the settings but still fires.
- 5 x Clicks of the fire button turns on or off the power.

Daft is something I cannot get my head around! There are 2 chamfers on the base which makes it very unstable when you have the tank on.
