I've had a lot more deliveries in the last few weeks since getting into vaping. I've had 3 deliveries disappear in 2 months. Other deliveries have been damaged or have split packaging.

After doing a little looking around it seems some vendors are seeing 30% losses so they're switching to a registered/signed for service. They are seeing fewer losses but still have items going walkabout.

Is this some kind of ploy to 'encourage' people on to a more expensive service and where the hell are all these lost packages going?!

What kind of postage losses, if any, are you seeing? Any reports from customers of damaged goods?

hello, i had to comment on this..

We offer a free post service on all our juices so packages (brown bubble wrapped envelope) are sent large 1st class, £1.24 stamps or recorded for higher value orders all depending on the size, weight of the order 6 ml, 12 ml, or 36 ml larger bottles. Keeping the postage costs down is what we strive to do but recently (6 weeks) ive seen a few packages are going missing.
Recorded is a must for larger orders and luckily ive not had any go missing. First class ive had a few, 1.24 packages ive had a few so yes i think they are pushing businesses to use recorded.
If an order goes missing the resend is always recorded, if its a small value order i may resend it 1st class again just to see if it does get delivered and in most cases it does.

With the amount of orders we ship out 4-600 a week at least 2-4 a week will go missing, its something that happens and we are prepared for it. Pain in the ass though! - we heavily rely on the good will of the customer but its taking that chance.

Never had anything 'go missing' must be a nightmare for traders nowadays, trust eh? I am a pensioner & dismayed at scammers nowadays, need their arses kicking!

In 13 months of vaping ive had one item go missing. One item was damaged.

I do feel for vendors and fully understand why they are using tracked post. They cant afford to keep payingbout to replace items :(

RMs compo is a joke. Stamps to pay for lost / damaged items? Not much use to a vendor when they need to pay for stock...

It is fast getting to the point that i have seen vendors in other areas (non vaping) move to courier even for smaller items as they don't have as high a risk of things going missing, They reserve RM for those low cost items.

Sending items myself I have noticed that sometimes it is vastly cheaper (parcels2go is the best for finding cheapest service and arranging it all) to send some things courier, it's just slightly more of a hassle for doing it for me Joe Bloggs having to organise collection rather than a quick trip to the post office. some couriers have tie ins with shops to act as collection points

Also working in the delivery game and talking to drivers at said couriers their workload has increased as more people use them over RM.

It might be worth looking at this as an option.

Thats right, 99% of the time customers are legit and truthful and a pleasure to work with but you will get a few that will say the 1 st class package has not been delivered, then claim to paypal.. you have no tracking and they win every time.
If tacked was cheaper il be using it on everything.

+1 THIS is the reason we only offer 1st class recorded for all orders as it was taking far too long dealing with a larger amount of missing items and then subsequent replacments or paypal disputes. In the end we had to go recorded only to keep quality of service high - even then though we have losing 2-3 parcels a week.

thats right.. the vast majority of returning customers you can more than likely say it is a royal mail error, but newer customers you can straight away sense something is not right.
recently, even though all packages are weighed and correct stampage is added, some customers have been receiving those dreaded extra cost slips always happens close to Christmas.
We always tell the customer to have them weigh it out and check it before they pay the extra cost - every time we have it bang on.

In support of vendors,

I've been operating a site for over 10 years (not related to vaping) and have sent literally 1000's of packages through Royal Mail. In all that time I've had just three 'go missing'. One of those customers was convicted for fraud (long story), one of them attempted to sell my item on ebay a few years after it 'wasn't delivered' and the other one seemed genuine.

The point I'm making, is that for all its failings Royal Mail rarely fails to deliver a package.

This makes me think that I'm either really lucky or my type of customer is more trustworthy than us dodgy vapers. Either way, if vendors are getting 2 or 3 packages going missing each week then I think we all know who's the culprit. It isn't Royal Mail and it sure as hell isn't the vendors.
