Viable strategy?

Hey again,

Was wondering if the following would be a viable strategy...

Let's say I mix 3/4 ingredients to make a custard flavour until im happy that the custard tastes the way I think custard should taste.

I do the same thing and make a couple of different jam flavours.

Once I have these 'base flavours' I could then use these at will to make a variety of different final flavours. Thereby having a final recipe that has 2 ingredients.

So instead of having a final recipe of potentially 12 different ingredients I have a recipe of 2 ingredients using my 'bases'.

So 70% jam base and 30% custard base instead of

X% Bavarian cream
X% capella custard
X% condensed milk
X% strawberry ripe
X% strawberry
X% super sweet
So on and so forth...

Viable strategy?

Oh so what I would call a base they call a stone?
Cool! Thanks for that!
yeah looks like it. Not sure how "official" that is though, there is a few "bases" as well. its well worth poking about on elr for ideas, although some of the recipes themselves are a bit crap (or a lot crap actually)
I think the name 'stone' is just someone is trying to be cool. :18:

yeah, it's a good way to do it, you are essentially making a new concentrate that's all. I just call them 'My ......' I have a bottle right here with 'My Raspberry' written on it, it's 2 raspberry concentrates and 1 strawberry concentrate.

I've found a secondary benefit is that, with some types, the steeping process seems to start with the mixing of the concentrates.

It's not so noticeable with fruits, but creams and custards seem to get stronger, and with caramel types the difference is insane.

If you're happy with calculating the quantities when you come to make a mix, a small amount of nicotine in these "stones" also gives a boost to steeping.
