Voopoo drag x coil troubles

Hi,

My first post here ! been vaping a good few years now and had 2 voopoo drag x's over the past 5 years.

Initially was using pre mixed 10ml 0.3 bottles and switched over to shorts fills about 2 years ago.

I'm having trouble with coils not lasting long at all and I can't seem to understand where it is going wrong.

I've tried:
VM6 0.15 lasting 1 week
VM1 0.30 lasting 3 days
VM5 0.2 lasting 3 days

Coils are primed properly both sides, left to stand and I'm using 70/30 short fills with just a 5ml of nice shot.

The tank also leaks which bugs me, I'm sure I never had these problems when I first purchased a drag x, coils were lasting up to 8 weeks.

Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Hi @matt2904 and welcome to the planet.

Does your kit have variable wattage. Always best to start of at half of the watts you want to vape at. Bedding in the coil is a must so if you are going to vape at 40watt then start on 20w and take short puffs you won't get any cloud or flavour but it's still heating up and bedding the coil in. Turn up 1w every few puffs until you reach your sweet spot.
I've not used any voopoo so not sure what else to suggest.

Oh hang on. If it's a 50ml shortfall then it needs 10ml to balance out the ratio. As your only adding 5ml the juice may be a bit thick. Are you using freebase 18mg or a nicsalt shot.

I've been using the PnP coils for a few years now in several different devices. I've tried all the VM coils in my Drag X with very good results and very good coil longevity. As already mentioned, prime the coil, leave for 15 mins and set the Drag X to its lowest wattage and take a few draws. Increment the wattage in 1W steps until you reach your desired power.
I ignore what the minimum recommended wattage for the coil and have to say I vape well under the minimum recommended. I usually use a 50/50 or 60/40 eliquid depending on the resistance of coil I'm using. Most of the time I can get 2 months out of a coil.
Try to keep the wattage below or on the minimum specified for each coil type and they should last several weeks if not more.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the advice...I once was getting good coil longevity. From what I read the best coild suitable for the juice i use is the VM1 and VM5 but they are performing the worst.

I didn't mention wattage in my OP but usually between 20-30 and lower when the coil begins to fail.

Hi DJ,

Thanks for the reply.

Does nicotine content really make a difference, I've assumed that devices perform the same without any nicotine content but thats not conformed this.

@matt2904
Its not the nicotine its the 3/4 bottle of vg/pg that is missing that could make the juice slightly thicker.
the nic shot will have 10ml but only a fraction of that is nicotine and the rest will be vg/pg so only putting a quater of the bottle in maybe the issue.
shortfills are designed mainly for 3mg so a 50ml bottle of zero plus 1 10ml bottle of nic shot will make 60ml of 3mg.
as youve not put the whole bottle in you may need some plain pg to thin the final juice out a bit.
just guesswork really as i mentioned ive not used any voopoo kits or coils before.
also forgot to ask, what ratio is the nic shot, 18mg 100 vg/70vg or 50/50 or is it a nic salt?

Hi DJ

The nicotine shots I'm using at the moment are 70vg...never been clear on what nic salt is.

me dont like salts as they used to be 20mg and hit the blood stream much quicker and as they are very smooth you can over do it and get nicsic. they now come in 20/10/5mg but as i like chugging at higher wattage they are no good for me. salts are mainly 50vg so best in mouth to lung kits at much lower wattage.

I choose 0.15 nicotine levels as eventually I want to knock vaping on the head, it may be weak but I'm used to it now.

Hi @matt2904 , adding a VG nic shot to a 70vg shortfill increases the overall VG content making it thicker so the coils you're using may struggle a little, especially at the wattage you're vaping at.
I balance my shortfills out with pg nic to bring the ratio to nearer 50/50. I also only vape at around 12-15 watts which will also help in increasing the lifetime of the coil.
