That kind of 'Carapace-like' aesthetic comes from Lobsters.

It then evolved through early Cyberpunk literature and imagery into it's current bio-mechanical form.

In some Cyberpunk novels, there were actually characters who were referred to as 'Lobsters,'
as their bodies were encased in technology which augmented their human body underneath.
