Why have more than one mod?

I answer to the original question it's as obvious as the nose on your face. He who dies with the most toys, wins.

I've tried, but cannot resist chucking in my tuppence worth on the great grammar debate.

I agree that it should depend on the medium. On a forum it's a relaxed atmosphere and I'll only get cross about failings that actually get in the way of geting the point across, though I'd still rather not point things out as this is a forum that people come to looking for help and information. From all walks of life and from all over the world, potentially. It's hardly welcoming to ignore what they say and pounce on how they said it, and it's counter-productive. I might ask people to elaborate, though. Or tell me more if I suspect 'elaborate' might not hit home ........

Having said that, I've just printed off an email, sent to a solicitor by our new trainee at work, so that I can take it in with me and beat him round the head with it on Monday. Starts with 'hi', has little in the way of punctuation, few capital letters and fails to even give the requested information in a way that can be understood clearly. As a business letter, or even a business email, it's unacceptable. :whipping:

And yes, I know I use far too many emoticons, question marks, dots (oh God the dots) and memes on here, and I rarely double-check what I've typed before posting. I'm aware I could be seen as slightly crazed and am probably annoying to some people, but it does reflect my personality - face-to-face I talk animatedly, too fast, use too many words and am somewhat exitable. Personally, I like to see the personalities coming through the posts on a forum - as long as I come across as friendly and benign, which is the most important thing to me, I can live with the judgments. ;)
