Wick breaks in middle on Clapton coil

Hello,
Been using premade 3mm Clapton coils for a while, I like the flavour they give
Using on Recurve, I burn the new coil, look for hotspots then wick
I try to get a nice sliding fit, but after a couple of days, get a horrible taste, when I check the wick it has parted in the middle and easily pulls out from both sides of the coil
I have looked on YouTube on how to wick, but still happening
I use cotton gods, cotton bacon prime, still happening
Vaping at 25 watts
Any advice greatly appreciated

Recurve, so can I assume you are squonking !?
I space my 0.24 ohm and run it at 45 to 48 watts, squonk every 3 pulls because the recurve hasn't got a very big juice well.

Yes I am squonking
Not sure the term , spacing

Hi @John68

Spaced just means a slight gap between the windings...

Not enough cotton through the coil, or perhaps vaping at too high a wattage (less likely at your stated 25watts). I find that processed cotton (cotton bacon etc) is more susceptible to the wick breaking in the middle than Muji or Japanese puff cotton pads.

Not sure if the cotton you use has a skin on both sides, but I use muji pads and I leave one side with skin on for extra strength. Also you could try twisting the cotton instead of rolling it. Then kind of screw the cotton through the coil. Might help. Good luck.

Try a little extra cotton so it gives slight resistance as you pull it through rather than sliding through too easily.
Also, make sure you are not letting the cotton dry out before re-squonking.

Hello,
I bought some vape fly premium cotton laces, flavour is better and coil is not getting funky, no breaks either
I will get some Muji or Japanese cotton as you state
