What's new

0.5Amp or 1amp battery charge

This thread answers the next question I was gonna ask lol. Fired them on at 1a and they did get a bit warm. Is this normal?

Yeah that's normal mate, think of it like this

.5A a gentle stroll - you get there eventually and not warm

1A a very small jog - you get there twice as fast but a little warm

Heat comes from energy transfer :P

Batteries normally get warm to the touch whilst charging

Charging at a slower rate is better, to a point. Most of our 18650 batteries have a "standard" charge rate of 1.0A-1.5A and a "rapid" charge rate of up to 4A. Charging at 0.5A might help extend the life of your batteries a bit but if the batteries are not getting warm at 1.0A then that's a good compromise between battery life and convenience.

Thanks for the quick reply. My old charger only charged at 0.5 so they stayed cool. Took forever tho. These charged in an hour at 1a but were new so they might of had a bit of charge

Would/should have been stored at around 3.7V bud ;)

Most regulated run them down to 3.2-3.5V I believe... So will take slightly longer

A 2,500mAh cell at 1A charge should take around 2.5 hours
