What's new

1st rebuildable..... Nervous....

Just had another thought, based on a aga t, and if I buy some fibre wick, what sort of coil stuff should I buy, I have heard of kanthal (whatever the hell that is). What's the best set up to go with my aga t and fibre wick??

Just to be clear... the second option you mentioned (Genesis Maxi) is not the same one that Dave Dorn broke on VTTV there appear to be two quite different beasts bein some in some places as a cobra copy. Actually the one from vapingthings is more like a clone of the genesis maxi (I posted a review of it on here in the reviews section). By all accounts it is ok, not great, but ok.
The Aga T is generally being very well received by many. If you want to use a silica wick Todd has done a vid to show you how:

You need to buy Kanthal Wire to wrap your coils out of - I would suggest you buy some 0.2 diameter for low resistance coils and 0.18 or 0.16 for wrapping slightly higher coils. I would also recommend you buy some wire mesh (400 gauge) as I am fairly confident you will want to try it after a time since most people who have these atties say that they perform better with a mesh wick

You'll want some 2mm silica/fibre glass wick and I'm finding the s is not so keen on the .20 kanthal so I'm trying some .15 instead. The stuff that comes with it is really thin but there is only enough for one wick and coil. I ordered from stealthvape, he sells both wick and wire.

Thanks guys and girls. That's handy stealth vape sells the wire and wick as I am going to buy myself a DIY box mod to try also. I have my soldering iron on order as we speak!!

Do I need to oxidise both he kanthal and the mesh? If so, can I do it with a lighter or do I need a blue flame?? Just so I know whether buy a wee burner or not?

Thanks doc, that video was really helpful. Gives me an idea of what I'm getting myself into. I'm off to find a tutorial about a mesh wick!

If you are using a silica wick and kanthal just run the wire through a lighter flame before you wrap the coil as it takes some of the spring out of it making it easier to wrap.
To make a mesh wick you can just use a lighter but if ou have a gas hob you can use the flame from that to oxidise your wick, rather than going out and buying a blow torch. I recommend watching one of Scotts genesis reviews to see how to make a mesh coil (His Orion review has a good explanation of the process).

Also I find soaking and flaming the wick helps to break it in. It's not essential but new wick sometimes doesn't taste so good. If I forget to treat it it can take about 1ml of juice going through before I really get the best flavour coming through. That's the beauty of rebuildables though-everyone has their own way of doing it. I can wait to get some mesh to try that, it's a new experience for me :)

I must admit, I'm getting excited about it now....

Thanks for the advice doc, I will try to find an old lighter in the house somewhere...... I used to have loads of the, kicking about when I was on the stinkies......
