Sorry, I realise these are questions I should be able to find the answers to, but I'm chasing my tail and getting more and more confused.

1) What's the difference between a cartomiser, a clearomiser and an atomiser?

2) I don't understand what a dripper is. Is it a cartridge thingy filled with fibre that you drip the e-juice into, as opposed to ""pouring" it into a hollow space in a clearomiser? Do they just screw onto a battery in the same way? It sounds as though you have to refill them constantly (with a pipette or something?) - what are the advantages?

What is a reliable, reasonably priced glass or pyrex clearomiser that will fit an ego-style battery? If the one you suggest will need some sort of adapter doohickey to do that, point me in the right direction, pretty please? I thought I was on the right track with a protank, but then I got confused about protank minis and protank 2s and things. I don't want to do anything more complicated than unscrewing a part and replacing it as and when, at this stage anyway. Basically, what do I need to get for an equivalent to a CE4 that will fit my ego and that I can use with tank crackers?

Plastic caps for clearomiser drip tips - do I need them? Do I only need them if end up with half a dozen clearomisers full of different flavours I might not go back to for X amount of time? Is there somewhere in the UK I can buy them from? I'm not very patient about waiting for post.

Again, sorry - I realise this is amateur hour, but it's a blue-eyed miracle I wasn't confused by stinkies, where the instructions basically consist of "Set on fire; put in face".

Sorry, I realise these are questions I should be able to find the answers to, but I'm chasing my tail and getting more and more confused.

1) What's the difference between a cartomiser, a clearomiser and an atomiser?

A cartomiser is a atomiser coil built into a cartridge. Back in the day when all there was was cig-a-likes the bit that held the juice was known as a cartridge. Refillable cartridges were a 'big thing' and they combined a cartridge with an atomiser - hence cartomiser.

A clearomiser of which I think the CE4 style were the first, were cartomisers that you could see through. They didn't use the wadding material that is inside a cartridge or a cartomiser (as you can't see through it) and were another step along the way to the tanks and stuff that are everywhere now. They used wicks to soak up liquid held in a tank.

An atomiser is a coil and not a lot else. It's usually used as shorthand to refer to the coil/wick assembly that is in a carto or clearo but it can also mean a dripping atomiser (HH 357 is a good example) that's literally a tube that you can drip into with a coil and wick at the other end - typically proper dripping atomisers can hold 2-3 drops of e-liquid before they flood.

There are big drippers and small drippers, some have more space inside to hold a little extra liquid, but they aren't designed to hold much and usually their design means they will leak if you put too much in. A dripper will take maybe up to one ml of e-liquid and when it gets low you drip more liquid into it (through the drip tip). It's why e-liquid comes in dropper bottles. Usually the more wick there is in a dripper the more liquid it can hold. The advantage is the flavour is better compared to a carto or a clearo.

What is a reliable, reasonably priced glass or pyrex clearomiser that will fit an ego-style battery?

Mini ProTank 2.There are going to be Davide Mini BDCs soon and probably Mini ProTank 3's soon which will both be better than a Mini PT2.

Right now the best around is the PT2 mini for an eGo sized tank. Will cost you about £12 a tank.

Plastic caps for clearomiser drip tips - do I need them?

no.

replacement heads for tanks come in little rubbery cap things which handily fit over a drip tip.

Then you have the Rebuildable Atomisers and Genny Tanks as well.

Boge Cartomisers IMO are the best most reliable. However, I have a liking for the Kanger t2 clearomisers and 306 dipping atomisers. I use only rebuilables now (mostly)

Kanger Mini Protank or Evod for an ego is the best going on the market at the minute.

I wouldnt waste money on Drip tip covers.

Also have a look on our wiki http://wiki.planetofthevapes.co.uk/wiki/Main_Page#Devices everything and then some you could ever want to know is there :)

+1 on Vaper capers comment
Expanding on that...

Cartomisers can be used on their own, fill it with E-liquid until the wadding wont hold anymore liquid, bung on a drip tip screw in onto your battery and vape, or you can buy them with tanks where you punch a hole in the cartomisers side, fill as above then slide on a tank and fill that too, ad a drip tip and vape a lot longer

Clearomisers are clear tanks that you fill with liquid, most will have either a top coil with an octopus of wicks dangling down to get the juice from tank to heating coil (CE4 / Vivi nova) or a Bottom coil with tiny little wicks hidden away in the bottom of the tank constantly soaked in juice

All devices have an atomiser (Coil and wick that makes the vapour) but in the sense that your using it refers to the rebuildable types like the Kayfun, or the RSST where you make your own coil and wick

Drippers are basically atomisers without a tank, yes you need to refill them every few minutes but the flavour and vapour are usually better than other devices

The best and most reliable Glass tanks for Ego's are currently Protank 2 mini, Followed by the Glass Evods - there are some available, there are some cheaper types available that are almost as good. Theres also the new Aspires but they are really new and some teething problems might exist yet...

Thanks, guys! I think I've finally got it. The atomiser is the bit with a coil that provides the heat (or the coil and wick assembly), whether that's in a cartomiser, a clearomiser or a dripper (or some sort of terrible/wonderful Frankenstein's monster creation).

A cartridge is a one-time disposable thing with wadding and fluid in it that doesn't have a built-in atomiser (first gen / cig-a-likes). A cartomiser has an atomiser built in, and is therefore refillable (second gen). A clearomiser is see-through and has a wick instead of wadding, which means you can see how much liquid is left (3rd gen). A dripper has wadding to absorb the fluid and gives a better flavour (for the flavour connoisseur who enjoys fiddling or to test DIY liquids). Does that sound right?

Are the standard evod tanks glass or pyrex? Do they have replacable heads? (By which I mean the coil/wick, if I'm using the lingo incorrectly).

Thanks again!

[Edit: Tubby, it won't let me "thank you" for your post, but I do!]

Okay, so I'd assumed, for reasons best known to myself, that CE4s were bottom-coiled, but apparently not. The little tampon strings mean they're top-coiled. I'm told bottom coils give a cooler vape, and I like what I'm getting from my CE4 in terms of "sensation" (not so very long off the coffin nails), so it turns out what I'm looking for is specifically a top-coiled glass or pyrex tank that will fit on an ego battery with minimum fuss.

Vaping is a complete maze! A fun one, though, with such helpful companions.

I agree Citrus just when you think you've learned about every piece of vaping gear you discover another ten shiny preciouses - smoking was never this much fun

Right Ninjaassasin1983? It's pretty and shiny and it smells and tastes nice and you meet awesome people! Mind you, I know nothing about any kind of vaping gear at this point, but I'm having such fun learning, and nobody here has made me feel like a noob - more like a welcome new member to the club.

To be fair, I've not got into the shiny kit yet - and I think there might be a hiatus first while I stick glittery things onto bog-standard kit, because I'm a crafty type (and also need to work out where I am and what's going on) - but it's only a matter of time. I'm a keen cook, too, and love pairing unusual flavours, so mixing is calling to me...

Well Citrus lemme know if you come up with anythin interesting like pomegranate and cheese or lamb and tuna fish flavour yum
