What's new

Am I reading too much into this?

I think he's talking about if restrictions or laws were put in place that impacted British industry (eg; exports) after we theoretically left the EU, he's saying we'd have no comeback. As if we do now :25:

@robotica i managed to find the transcript :

Now, on sovereignty, yes of course if Britain were to leave the EU that might give you a feeling of sovereignty, but you’ve got to ask yourself is it real? Would you have the power to help businesses and make sure they weren’t discriminated against in Europe? No, you wouldn’t. Would you have the power to insist that European countries share with us their border information so we know what terrorists and criminals are doing in Europe? No you wouldn’t. Would you, if suddenly a ban was put on for some bogus health reasons on one of our industries, would you be able to insist that that ban was unpicked? No you wouldn’t. So you have an illusion of sovereignty but you don’t have power. You don’t have control.

It was the last little bit I was referring to, banning something for health reasons which effected one of our industries (the ecig industry for instance) would you be able to reverse it if we weren't part of the EU. The answer being 'no you wouldn't'.

I'm probably too engrossed in the farce that is article 20 and making his statements fit my mindset though.

Thanks for that! I think he was probably just making it up on the spot rather than having a particular thing such as ecigs. It's all very hypothetical.

In general though I think he wants us to secretly leave the eu do he can really do a complete 1984 on us!

All it would mean is that is would take a smaller bribe from big tobacco and pharma to screw us.

What I'm getting from that is that Europe discriminates against businesses, harbours terrorists and criminals, and suddenly bans things for bogus health reasons. He's basically saying that the EU is corrupt as fuck and that's why we should stay.
