She should be charged with misuse and causing harm to the environment for leaving a battery charging unsupervised.
It`s a case of blame anyone but herself for her own stupidity and then claiming finacial reward for her own neglect,unfortunately she will probably get paid out.

I would send her to prison for a couple of weeks.
