Evening Guys,

A few questions about steeping:

To get rid of perfumey notes, the common thing to do is to steep in a warm dark place with cap off/ loose.

How much airflow does it take? Is it best to have to whole cap off or just loose? Is it enough to keep the mini cap off a needle point bottle?

If open needle is enough, then it'd be easy to have lots of juices in a box on a radiator.

Assuming that all the juices are open and in a closed box, how likely is it that juice flavours mix via air? Like milk taking flavour from other stuffs in the fridge?

Thanks for helping in advance,

Dr A

Hi Dr A I leave all mine in the light with tops off and just squeeze the plastic bottles every couple of days, those are the bottles with the little drip caps on them. I do not get to involved with the science of any of this it just works for me. If you have not seen this then I suggest you look through it, I use the whisk method also.

I personally leave caps and dripper top off only for 24 hours then everything back on ( kept in small cardboard box in dark bedroom cupboard ) then every 2 days top off quick squeeze and good shake

i steep with caps on wherever I left it when I closed it most likely :)

thanks for the replies. This steeping business is a bit of a black magic thing.

I'm looking at the things on top of that radiator now and wondering if all the DI will evaporate making the juice very thick :)

Nothing wrong with keeping them warm with the cap on, it is winter after all ;)
If it's a sunny day i leave mine on the windowsill to top up their tans!

There is a post on here called UV steeping. The guy uses a nail drying UV unit for 13 quid.. Says he has vanilla custard ready to vape in 60 mins. I want to try it at some point, but til then i whisk it with a frother as in that video, cap off and put it in the window when the sun is out... Works ok, but i think the UV unit will be better.

I vape at 6mg, so my juices never really go too dark, but my VC has gone a deep dark orange colour after 2 hours in the sun.

This is interesting. I also watched that video.

Sun light is all about Ultraviolet radiation, so sounds to me like there are chemical changes to nicotine and/ or the flavourings when exposed to it. This makes me think that the steeps should not be done in a dark box, but out in the sun, like you do.

I did notice that the mixing of the flavouring to VG is visibly slow, and it makes a lot of sense that whisking it accelerates the process. All in all I think these steep times of weeks that people talk about are just a lack of not using the right method to mix and UV expose the juice.

I won't buy a UV thing, as I have a feeling the mixing is the key. I will nip over to the hardware store and see what I can find there for mixing.

Cheers,

Dr A

No worries mate. Amazon do them for £2, but i am impatient so went to argos and paid a fiver ;)

Partialy true Dr A but there is no substitute for time and patience. I make a bit of homemade Cider, yeh you can drink it after a certain time but like a wine will improve with giving it a bit more time.
