What's new

back to the same old bullshit

Well, I read it and thought no biggie. If smokers want to kill themselves whilst thinking we're sucking on antifreeze, let them.

I'm also really glad that there are people like steffijade keeping dear old aunty on her toes.

Since when did the bbc ever tell the truth ??
The whole point in journalism is to create discussion, not to tell the truth.

Ex journalist here. Can confirm.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I didn't know that using speech marks on headlines meant anything other than the writer wished to emphasise words to gain the best effect. That they are actually named as scare quotes was a surprise, and in this instance highly accurate as a casual reader will see ANTIFREEZE and skim reading the rest of the article then associates ecig liquids as poisonous as EVERYONE knows it is acutely poisonous (apart from Daily Wail readers as they know it to be carcinogenic, and cats/dogs/young children as they can't read )

I've also read the article linked and it didn't set me off swearing, unlike most other media stories that mention vaping .

You're telling me Nixon was innocent! :11:

Yeah. Nixon was innocent as a new born baby.

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!

Ok. It was aliens. Or immigrants. Or something. But they definitely vaped anti-freeze.

Perhaps it's designed to scare the casual and wind up the informed. As soon as I saw "Antifreeze" in the headline it moderately irritated me before reading the article. From then on I was a biased reader. Great journalism. Job done.

And while all this goes on (as in the discussions between us) the government will slip out some other way of fucking over and controlling society that we will miss go thru as we get hung up on a report that isn't worded right ;)

C'mon, help me out here. I'm getting confused! Does this all mean that I will be able to vape outside, in January, without my juice freezing up, or not! FFS, that's all I wanna know.

Aye, I've put a complaint in to BBC about the article asking them to change the title to 'Media hysteria leads to misconception about safe substance'.
Thankyou for taking the time to do this. Much appreciated.

I know this doesnt account for all journalists out there but this is the problem with a lot of modern journalism. If it makes a good story who cares if it is 100% factual.

On a positive note at least they mention that "propylene glycol is "a common, perfectly safe, FDA and EU approved flavouring agent".
