Most of my mixes are/gonna be custard based ,but steeping time for custard particularly is doin ma heed in.
I was thinking about making a base custard mix at
12mg, 7% cvc.
That way i've got 8% flavourings to play with and i dont have to wait the full 2-3 week steeping time.

Any issues i would have to consider ?
Thanks in advance

Capella VC typically needs to be a higher % in the mix though it depends what other stuff you have there too.

A GVC-alike recipe (there are lots on the internet) typically has 15-20% Capella VC and a few % of Cinnamon Danish and/or dulche de leche and then some kind of sweetner in it.

Steeping is a chemical reaction between nicotine and 'stuff' in the flavours. You can speed this up with ultraviolet light, increased oxygen or heat.

If you make a mix and leave it on a sunny windowsill all day it'll steep lots faster. Blitz it with a milk frother (adds lots of air bubbles to increase oxygen contact) or squoosh it into and out of a syringe a few times (also adds many tiny bubbles) and that'll help too.

I've not tried steeping out a base flavour and then adding other notes on top later. It might work and is probably worth a try.

Steeping time is a bastard though. It's why it takes me usually 2-3 months to come up with a new flavour as you can't really test something you've made until it's properly steeped, and usually I want to tinker with everything too much.

thanks very much..useful info..
a few questions.
i'd read that sunlight degraded nicotine ..is that more of a longterm thing ?
custard..cvc..seems to take longer than almost anything else to steep..is that the case..?
I'm trying to keep my flavourings to 15% ..and in an all vg mix..this means steeping is all important..
Rambling a bit..
Just thought if i had a custard base then steeping other stuff may be cut too a week..maybe
Although i'm not sure if
Bavarian cream, cream, milk all take the same time as custard ?

yes.

not really. Anything cream(y) flavoured also takes a long time to steep, also if you use something like Ethyl Maltol, PA Smooth or Vape Wizard that also takes a long time to steep.

flavours tend not to get stronger with steeping, they tend to mellow out a bit and blend properly, some flavours like creams take time to develop. 15% seems low - especially for a VG mix, but everyones sense of taste is different so as long as it works fine for you than it's all good. :)

typically yes anything cream related takes a while.

i get wheezy with certain flavours (4% cheesecake amongst many others makes me wheeze)and possibly high %'s of flavouring in general..
as it stands i'm making loads of 7ml samples and variations of them before i settle on anything..
Thanks for the advice

Why not make a big batch of custard with full flavour % and your normal nic level, then you can use this to blend with other juices that you make.

I wonder if its worth you looking into some of the concentrates that don't require 10 - 25% to mix up ..

stuff like inawera and a few others only need between 1 and 5% .. i wonder if this would help with your weezy issues?
of course they may not have the flavours you require
