Battery voltage changing

Hi everyone

So this may just be me being paranoid, but I have noticed the voltage on my battery has been changing. Firstly, the kit I am using. I am using the gorge RDA on my smok alien mod. I have torchy 18650 3.7 v 30A batteries. In the gorge I have a single Clapton coil at around 0.425 ohms.

Firing at 49w my mod is showing the volts at 4.436 and around 10A. I'm sure the voltage has never gone this high before. The charge is at around 40% at the moment and I'm a bit concerned that I'm straining the battery. Is this normal? Should they be replaced?

No, the mod is working as intended. It's a regulated device so all is good.
The mod works out what amp is required from the resistance of the coil & sets voltage accordingly. It's all magic & trickery in a box [emoji16]

Thank you! I was just worried I was pushing the battery too hard since it's only rated at 3.7 volts. I thought it could be dangerous going higher than that

Yes, two batteries as I have just the standard alien. I see this mod and other smok mods getting bashed a lot online for being a bit crap but have to say had no issues with mine!

It's not displaying the voltage being drawn from your batteries @drifting_clouds , rather it is displaying the amount of voltage that is being sent into your atomiser. As @nwhornet said in a regulated box its all trickery and the alien is good ffor 7.5v output to the atomiser due to it being a series box.

If you want to work out the actual amp draw from your batteries in a regulated it's all here:
https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...attery-current-draw-for-a-regulated-mod.7532/

In short you're pulling around 8 amps per cell at that wattage on that mod (50 w / 2 cells / 3.2v cuttoff = 7.8v draw per cell).

Thank you for the detailed explanation, that's really helped me understand more. Now I know, I'm sure the voltage will have shown this before. I just never noticed it until now!

As others have said it's fine, it's showing output voltage not input

But the alien is using a series set up for batteries, so they both act as one bit with double the voltage, amd batteries voltage changes through charge level, full is 4.2v and dead is around 3v (most mods won't go that low)

So what the chip in the mod is doing is limiting how much of the 8.4v (or less) available hits the coil

Most 2+ battery mods are stepping down the voltage (reduces amp load per cell) while single battery mods can go both up and down in what it draws (which is why most are limited to a safer 75w
