The more I see of BBC news of late, the more I feel like it's just become a vehicle for government propaganda.. and we all know the government wants the public to be concerned enough about vaping that they can 'legitimately' claim to be acting out of concern for health/safety when they implement regulation, licensing and taxation.
The fact that the BBC charter is up for review in the near future makes it quite vulnerable to manipulation by government. Yeah it's not quite Pravda in it's heyday, but I think that some at a high level within the BBC are being coerced to stay 'on message' under threat of cuts to future funding.
I'd love to see vaping properly debated on the BBC, with folk such as Clive Bates and Dr Farsalinos invited to argue the case for vaping but that would probably stray too far away from the preferred official line... and the public need to kept at a certain level of concern to avoid government plans being questioned.
Ah I love the smell of conspiracy in the morning.
