Hey guys, I've just got myself a Gata RTA and am looking for some basic advice to just make sure i'm not gonna blow anything / myself up.

I've got the following setup

- Gata RTA / Aegis Mini mod (going to be upgrading this soon) / Coilology 7 in 1 Performance Coils Pack / Cotton Bacon / The Rochford Project Black Vine 3mg

The coil i'm using is the Fused Clapton 0.34 ohm 3mm 2-26/36 and it's reading 0.27 on my mod - I just wanted to ask some basic questions before I start properly using it.

- Would my mod tell me if there's a short / anything wrong with the coil installation?

- Is this setup okay on this mod? (Other than it having shit battery life)

- What kinda wattage should I be running this build at? Ive been testing it at 40W and it vapes okay but has quite a bit of popping / ramp up & down, is that normal with RTA's? (coming from AIO's). Basically takes a while to get going then after it still produces a small amount of vapour for 5-10 seconds or so as it cools down i assume. My assumption was I need more wattage but kinda scared to go higher atm.

- Any other beginner safety things I should be aware of?

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi @xSnuggles and welcome to POTV :)

  • Yes your mod will recognise an issue with the coil (Regulated mods have good safety features)
  • Yes I think the setup is fine on the mod for DTL (Re-check the post screws are tight on your next re-wick and yes battery life may suffer)
  • Have a play with the wattage to find what you like. Maybe up to 45W
  • Popping may indicate a wicking issue (Popping and spitting can be an over saturated coil - Try a wee bit more cotton)
  • A slight "hissing" after firing can be normal but may also point again to wicking.
  • I'm assuming the coils are Kanthal which can be slower in ramping up

I don't know the Gata RTA but the above is a general reference for Single Coil RTA's from my own experience.

It's a bit of trial and error - Keep at it, good luck and have fun :)
