Benefits of RTAs over stock coil tanks?

Hi all!

Received the tank today (received the original Ares 2 and not the LE but not too bothered about that).

I watched the tutorial videos on the Innokin site and set it up just like it shows on there which seemed easy enough... but the flavour is no where near as good as with the Z coils I use in my Zlide tank.

Obviously I’ve done something wrong but I’m not sure what. I used one of the premade 1ohm coils that come with the tank.

Anyone have an idea of what a newbie could do wrong that would effect the flavour? I’ve attached a pic in case that sheds any light lol

Cheers!

Could be the height of the coil. About 2mm above the air hole is a good starting point. Also, you may need to adjust the airflow under the coil. How have you got that set up?

I’ve got the coil as low as it will go without touching the airflow and I had the airflow under the coil on the tightest setting.

I have changed that to a bit more open (about halfway) and also upped the wattage on my device as I was still running it on the 12 watts I used for the 1.6 z coils lol.

So I’ve now got the airflow open a bit more and vaping at 15 watts and it’s a lot better flavour! Just a newbie error by me :18:

For someone who’s never attempted building before and is very new to vaping, I found it very easy to do with this tank!

Cheers for the quick response pal! :2thumbsup:

Its gonna take a little bit of practice, not much, but a little. Can u take a closer pic at a 45 degree angle and on from like above but slightly from an angle and we can maybe judge your build.

Its gonna take a little bit of adjustment always to get it to hit like a stock coil (because stock coils r designed for consistency) but once u get a general idea of how the best way to put it together, u will find yourself not realizing what tank u r vaping from, stock or rebuilt (thats all i ask from my rta's)

(Distance and size r more easily judged with a slight angle to help us critique)

Cheers @rew

Brilliant, glad it has improved. It does take a bit of experimenting to find your sweet spot. Keep us updated and if you have any more questions just ask. Pleased for you mate.

Ok, (i was able to click on your pic to get a clearer image)
First off, it looks like your wick is stuffed thru the juice ports and out the bottom. I dont understand why, but rta's work better if u either cut it and comb it out a bit and measure it so it doesnt go all the way thru the port, or in the case of the ares, i could see a dam build working well (u just kind of cut it and fold it back under so it completely blocks the juice port and 'dams' it up)

Also, typically, raising the coil closer to the chimney is what increases flavor, not lowering it (again, the physics of why is beyond me). I also dont know if it is necessairly as important with bottom only airflow tanks.

For a first timer i don't think he has done a bad job, i think from a quick look at it, it might benefit from a little more cotton though if it vapes ok stick with it. Not all RTA's are that easy so the Ares is a nice one to practice on, you will soon get a feel for it and everything will become second nature after a few goes, good luck and stick with it.

No, i dont think bad at all. Just pointing out a cpl rules of thumb, however anecdotal they might be.

Ive learned that there r many aspects of building that just dont corform at all to intuition.
