Best gauge wire to use in a DIY box mod?

If you use cable strictly speaking it's not a mech

In my humble opinion "Mech or Mechanical" usually applies to tubular metal mods.

it is simpler to refer to box mods as "Regulated or Unregulated".

Although I have made a tin box mod without any solder joints I used heavy duty household solid copper wire for springs and connexions. Is it "mechanical"? I think so but it is definitely "Unregulated"

Next step will be adding a usb charger to save mechanical wear on the springs. The board will need soldering to + and - . This step removes the "Mechanical" descriptive but the box remains "Unregulated"

yeah i should've just said unregulated box mod lol

Cool, seems like a really simple schematic, what does a MOSFET actually do?

Its like a little switch operating a big switch.
Kinda like a solenoid in a cars wiring.
I just wish I could get me head round figuring out the right 1s to use.

Have a wander through such as Digikey/Mouser etc, these sites usually have a search function(input mosfet)and choose 1 that can handle the required current. I bought a bunch of them and they're only about £2 each.

Ta very much.
What about the resistor is there a 1 size fits all or are there calculations to be made depending on the build specs?

My mosfets have had several different resistances used as I was removing them from a circuit board off a dead PSU.

BaDaBooM posted a link to RS components shop on ebay with some mosfets that were the perfect match, just can't find the thread to get you there with this fucking stupid tablet as it keeps closing POTV every few responses I post. :(

actually I'm in the process of making a pure mech. box mod
kato mod is mech
as is black oak
they have no wires or soldered joints Seedy also made a mech. box

That looks amazing man. I bought the enclosure for my box mod yesterday, just a cheapo plastic project box, but once I get the hang of it and work out the quirks of making box mods I'm going to look into getting a nicer enclosure for sure
