Beware of some EGO 1300mah Batteries

I've searched this forum and can't find a related thread that matches my issue so I'll explain my experience to warn others.

I took delivery of the EGO advertised 1300mah batteries yesterday and put one on charge (i thought) using the standard usb ego charger for 8 hours and still no green light. When i checked the battery, it wasn't connected to the charge head because the stem of threads are longer than the 650, 900 & 1100's.

After some research i found this X6 USB Wire Charger which sounds like the correct charger but their sold out, there's also this USB Charging Cable for Electronic Cigarette V9/V10 on FastTech but the description doesn't resolve the issue.

So i've decided to issue a return and refund from the fleabay seller, it's a bit naughty really of the seller failing to mention this.

Dragon ecigs are now selling a 1300 starter kit where the 1300 batteries look shorter and fatter than the 1300 batteries that i bought so they may still fit the standard ego usb charger.

You may be aware of this already but for anyone that's not i see 2 options:

  1. Buying your first EGO Starter Kit? Go for the new style 1300's.
  2. Replacing your EGO Batteries to last longer? Save the hassle and go for the 1100mah instead.

A decent quality (Joyetech, Vision, Smoktech) branded 1100mah eGo battery is going to cost somewhere in the region of £15 more if you get a VV version.

There is no accepted eGo 'standard' - the original eGo batteries were designed by Janty who subcontracted the manufacture of them to joyetech, other companies versions are copies of that design and they don't all use the same quality of internals. Also you'll find that some chargers are incompatible with some egos sometimes cos of the differeing (slightly) screw threads and sometimes because the cahrgers don't have any protection built into them. they work fine with the eGos they are designed for (as those egos have the protection n the battery) and as soon as you plug a different make of eGo battery into them they go bang.

You can buy dirt cheap lookalike ego batteries all over the place, and you might get lucky and get one that lasts a decent amount of time but it's much better to get a Janty/Joyetech/Vision or SmokTech branded one and use the chargers that they supply.

A decent ego battery should last 6 months plus given average wear and tear.

here's my 2 pence and please dont take offense!

Read the last blog I wrote here http://blog.planetofthevapes.co.uk/node/42 Some things I live by when it comes to vaping.

Those batteries on the ebay page look dodgy as all for me and I wouldnt buy them. Always buy from a reputable vendor and if you arent sure which one, ask on here for advice :D

The first ego battery I bought came as a starter kit, and it was only after learning more about vaping kit that I realised there's a difference between branded ones and copies, and that the one I had was a copy. Ever since then the only ego batteries I've bought are Joyetech or Vision ones, and the first one I bought has hardly been used. I'm sure there's probably nothing wrong with it, but I feel much happier about the ones I've bought subsequently. Yes, they've been more expensive, but it's worth every penny I reckon.

  • Don't charge your Ego batteries via ANY USB ports. Invest in a USB to Plug adapter. It's much safer and you run less risk of venting a battery or shorting out your PC/Laptop/Gaming Console. Trust me, a charged ecig battery isn't nearly as important as the other stuff!
I have just learned something from reading that KMS. I didn't know you shouldn't charge your batteries via USB port. I have both of mine charging from my laptop as I don't have any 3-pin plugs :/

I vented a battery and nearly lost my XBOX because of charging it through the USB adapter even though I had been told NOT to do it. So I only ever charge my egos with one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/White-USB...?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item53f4fed16f and the charger now.

By reading those lines alone i realise i bought the wrong ones :17: not even VV :banghead:

No offence taken, thanks for the linky; we live and learn and hopefully without a battery popping in our face :diy:

Thanks all for your 2 pence's. The FastTech order is close to being shipped, i may as well limp by with the depleting 650's until the mods arrive.

It's all very confusing, especially starting out. I think I just got lucky in buying a genuine V3 Vision with all it's correct bits. Though I did a fair bit of research before shelling out, I hadn't realised just how many rip offs and copies there are out there. Sadly it's one of those things where, if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is :)

There is a lot of cheap tat on eBay. They are basically made from poor quality, cheap, components. You can get a cheap ego, but you cannot get a good quality cheap ego. Myself and my business partner visited China a couple months back to meet with e-cig manufacturers, and when you see how the manufacturing processes work out there, particularly for a relatively new industry like this, you soon realise that 'cheap' always comes at a 'cost'....corners are cut! It affects performance and, most likely, safety.

As mentioned above, for not much extra than the cost of a pack of fags, choose a reputable retailer for your kits and you'll be fine.

I'm a bit late finding this post. I've just had a look at Jodda 's fleabag link for the 1300 bat.
And I would like to share with all that read this, that.

1. Qustosz 's stock is not in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. It comes from Poland. At least mine did.
2. It's a pile of junk.
3. Hasn't got a clue. Ordered 3x CE5 coils v2 as described, they sent v3, so don't fit. Case on going.
4. This is not a vendetta against them. But their on me avoid list.
5. Fleabay ain't all bad. I have 4x ego 1100mah bats. Two from fleabay, two from a vender. The vendor ones, have fell apart after 6 weeks. The fleabay ones, are about 8 weeks old now, they get hammered daily and no sign of them giving up yet.
