BP Mods TMD Boro Community Review
Hello fellow Apes and welcome to another community test review. This time around we were given the opportunity to test the new BP Mods Boro tank, along with some of the new TMD Coils that have both just been released.
All of the test tanks were provided by BP Mods Bruce, and kindly shipped out to everyone by the ever-generous Andy (aka
@dovpo_uk). Andy has just taken on the role of UK Support for BP Mods and was able to get hold of some pre-release kits for us to test out. Thanks to Andy for providing the kits and support for the test, without your hard work and enthusiasm these events would not happen.
The test team, which was smaller the usual due to limited available test kits, was made up of the following.
@Chris K /
@LDotKDot (Chris did the hard work – reporting back to the team, while LdotKdot got to use the tank)
@JohnNada
@Squidgy
And lastly, myself,

The Review
The TMD Boro is a stock coil boro tank, that takes the new TMD coils. It is designed to fit in all boro compatible mods which have become more and more popular in recent years.

Because we received pre-release versions of the tank, they were not in retail packaging, so we can’t give a view on packaging, although the pictures on the Dovpo website show that they come, as expected, in the standard BP Mods flatbox.

In the box you’ll get the tank and 2 TMD coils, the 0.55 RDL and 0.3 DTL. You’ll also get a good selection of o-rings and some spare condensation plugs.
The TMD coils are the same size as the GTX and PnP coils, which opens up a fairly big range of coils that can be used in the boro.
The boro itself is well constructed and of very similar quality to the Pioneer Insider, another well-known BP Mods product.
“The tank fits together very well and feels like it is made from high grade materials. The machining is excellent with no burrs or rough edges, and no sign of machine oil residue.” – JohnNada
“Very high level of finish, crystal clear plastic Boro and well finish metalwork and a built in condensation trap that does actually work.” – Squidgy

Keen eyes will notice the airflow ring on the bottom of the tank. This is another very well-designed feature of the tank and allows a wide airflow control.
We were also introduced to some new words in the BP Mods blurb.
“AIRFLOW RING DESIGN POINTS ·Able to adjust without taking the tank out of the mod!·The best air impermeability on pre-build coil tanks ever!** Tightness somatosensory airflow: less than 0.8” – BP Mods blurb.
Let’s just say that the airflow control works well.
“The airflow ring is definitely another standout feature for this boro tank. It goes from super tight to wide open and everything in between. Really easy to dial in to suit your individual tastes. It's also very easy to adjust whislt the tank is in your device, which is a bonus.” – JohnNada
“Fairly basic and simple. Close it off for MTL or open it up for DTL. No faffing (Which I like) and works great.” – LdotKdot
“The Airflow range is very good, my only reason for dropping a mark is that when using the TMD Boro in a Billet Box the airflow is restricted further by the side panel (butts right up against the airflow intake), but this can be overcome by removing the AFC ring.” – Squidgy
Installing the coil is very straightforward and should not cause any problems.
“Very simple. Coil is a push to fit so even a monkey could do it. Filling is simple as well. ” – LdotKdot
“Couldn't be easier, even for a habitual nail biter like me!” – JohnNada
“No issues with coil fitment, simples!” - Squidgy
As always, make sure that you prime the coil before insertion. For the supplied 0.3 and 0.55 approach as you would any other coil, put some drops of juice on each of the exposed cotton on the side of the coil, and a few drops inside. Then you just push the coil in and put the tank together.
However, in the interest of trying out all options, some of the 1.05 coils were sourced and this led to some interesting findings.
“The 0.3 and 0.55 coils are very easy to prime, however there is a bit of a ritual involved to prime the 1.05 coil properly (as per Bruce's video). I worry people who buy these coils may not realise this and potentially ruin them. This should hopefully be less of an issue once the revised coils start hitting the shelves.” – JohnNada
So, what’s that all about then?
Well, there is a fairly lengthy ritual that you have to go through to get the MTL coil prepped for use. You can find out how Bruce recommends you should prime the coil in his video below.
The short version. Prime the coil as you would normally. When you put juice in the top of the coil let it soak up the juice. Then repeat several times. At one point during the video, after about 20 minutes of this, he states that if you think you’re done, well not quite yet. He then asks you to go through the process of dry pulling on the coil. Basically, suck through the coil as if you’re vaping it, but without pressing the fire button. After about 30 minutes of all of this, it should be ready to go.
Yeah, it’s a load of faff, and one that was not popular with everyone. Not only that, we came to find that the early release version of the coils had some issues, and we did find some poor performance initially (burnt taste). However, once the coils are primed properly, they perform their MTL duties extremely well.
Filling the tank is straightforward, with the tank using the same fill port design as the Pioneer Insider. The fill port is fairly low and does make it a bit tricky to completely fill the tank.
“If I had to be fussy I'd say the fill hole could be placed higher to allow a few extra drops of liquid to be used.” – JohnNada
“Easy enough to fill and to see the juice level, I don't recommend filling directly using a big 250ml bottle shot though, for big nozzles a syringe comes in very handy for this type of fill method.” – Squidgy
“Rubber bung out, nozzle in, squeeze, refit rubber bung and vape. Can't get any simpler really.” - LdotKdot
Once put together, the tank fits very nicely into the mods that we tried. There was no need to overtighten the nut, and no one experienced any shorts with the tank.

All the coils produce great flavour, with all of the testers being impressed with their performance.
“Good flavour, no drop in flavour overtime. Coil is still going strong after weeks of use. Easily up there with Rebuildable Boro Bridges” – LdotKdot
“The flavour provided by each of the coils is excellent. I did find the 0.3 ohm mesh coil to be slightly better than the 0.55 though, providing a richer flavour and faster ramp up. 38W was the sweet spot for both of these. There was bit of a break-in period with the 1.05, where it tasted a bit weird for a while. Once broken in the flavour was great and it will definitely please MTL vapers. It should also be noted that there is a flaw with the early batch of 1.05 coils however BP MODS advise this has been rectified.” – JohnNada
“For me both coils performed at their best at the max recommended wattage 0.55ohm = 35w 0.3ohm = 40w The flavour for me was noticeably better with the 0.55ohm coil for the juices I was using.” – Squidgy
Personally, I found that both supplied coils produced great flavour, the 0.3 being a good open DTL and the 0.55 being a little more restricted. However, I did not get on with the MTL coil. I think I received one of the pre-release duds and found it giving off a burnt taste too often for my liking.
When it came to Vape Quality/Saturation the tale was the same.
“The 0.3 in particular is one of the best stock coils I've used.” – JohnNada
“The 0.55ohm coil performed the best for me, and in my opinion outperforms all others in its class. The 0.3ohm was still good but a certain 2nd.” – Squidgy
“Perfect, no dry hits (Apart from when run out of liquid) and no gurgling from a flooded coil. Wicked perfectly everytime.” – LdotKdot
One thing that surprised all of us was the longevity of the coils. We were 12 days into the test and the following comment was made.
“I can’t seem to kill the bleeding coil! It goes on and on and on and on and on. I’ve put a coil killing liquid in it and it’s still going strong.” – Chris K.
One of the biggest worries that boro mod users have is leaking and condensation. So how does the BP Mods Boro perform on this front?
I think that all testers would agree that it does a fine job. No one experienced any leaking and very little condensation. The tank is very well built and fits together very snugly, so no worries about juice leaking.
“I have had boro tanks from other brands where the lower seals either leaked or seeped liquid but the TMD boro stayed bone dry throughout the whole test period. No leaking through the base of the coils either. Very impressive!” – JohnNada
“No Leaking to report whatsoever, even after a 10 day run without removing the Boro from the mod. Also left full overnight, everynight.” - Squidgy
The anti-condensation plugs do a great job too.
“The anti-condensation plugs do an amazing job. Even after 4 days of continuous usage wih the 0.3 ohm coil there wasn't a single drop of condensation inside my Pulse, and that was with solid panels fitted.” – JohnNada
“Tiny amount of condensation but much less than I've known from many other bridges, including stock coils one. Gave it a brief wipe every few days but overall impressive.” – LdotKdot
“No condensation within the Boro space of the mod, only condensation found was in the condensation trap and was evident that the little condensation bungs were doing their job well.” – Squidgy

Well, hopefully I have covered all of the details about this tank that you wanted to know. Some closing thoughts on our overall impression with the tank are in order.
First the positives.
For me this tank provides a great option if you’re feeling lazy and just want a vape that will vape without all the messing about getting the build just right. The TMD coil options cover the range, and if you want more there’s the GTX and PnP coils as well. The tank is well built, doesn’t leak and has very little if any condensation. And at £30 that makes for a compelling option.
“This has honestly got to be one of the best boro tanks I've used, and definitely the best stock coil boro tank. The design is very well thought out with features such as the anti-condensation plugs and ability to use TMD, PnP and GTX coils. The Wotofo SMRT PnP coils in particular work very well in the TMD boro.” – JohnNada
“A big positive is coil life, I run the 0.55ohm coil first and run it till it dropped 11 days later it had gone through over 100mls of juice and a change of flavour (from 60vg to 80vg) half way through. The 0.3 ohm coil is still going strong.” – Squidgy
“Well built and simple to use. Great Boro for anyone who just wants to throw it in a mod and use with without having to change absolutely everything before getting roughly the Vape they want. Refreshing change from a lot of bridges.” – LdotKdot
Negatives.
I was disappointed with the MTL coil. The early production issue aside, the faff involved in the priming of the coil is really beyond the extreme. I think BP Mods should have a good long look at the MTL option and come up with something that is more mainstream in its implementation. Other than that I really like this tank, and expect to get some good use out of it.
“It's been really hard to find fault with this tank or the coils, but if I had to find one thing to nit-pick over it's the placement of the fill hole. Had it been placed higher then you could get a few extra drips of liquid into the tank. It would have also been great if all coils were available to buy immediately, as currently you can only purchase the 0.55 and 1.05 in stores... a shame as I like the 0.3 the most! This will be a moot point soon though I'm sure.” – JohnNada
“For me the flavour on the 0.3ohm coil had an unexpected tint to it at first which slowly faded before refilling, just guessing, maybe from some production lube on the mesh. Also the 0.3ohm coil provided was actually reading 0.4ohms, no big deal but noted it wasn't what was written on the tin.” – Squidgy
“Hard to pull it up in anything really. I only used the 0.55 as it lasted so long I didn't need (Or want) to swap it.” – LdotKdot
A common area that all the testers felt could be improved upon was the fill hole. Moving it up slightly would make filling the tank to the top less fiddly. Squidgy also wanted to use his 250ML big nozzle bottles, so asked for a bigger hole.
Another complaint was that the airflow was a little restricted in the BB, although removing the airflow ring from the bottom of the tank resolved that.
And finally, the scores.
hack400 – 9.0
JohnNada – 9.8
LdotKdot – 9.1
Squidgy – 9.2
Final Score – 9.3/10
Not too bad.
