Building the Orchid

I use 10 wraps of 0.4mm kanthal round a 3mm screwdriver.
The coils aren't the issue, it's all about the wick. I just trim it down so the chimney fits on OK, making sure the wick is touching the top of the channels (but not going down into them)

Orchid v3

In response to your question ,I have just got my first RBA an orchid v3 and I love it. I used 32 gauge kanthal did 6 x2 wraps round a 2mm screwdriver using japanese cotton at the moment and wicked it quiet loosely i.e it moves in the coils but only just and had just over the end of the juice channels ,no leaks whatsoever, this came out at .8 ohms which for a first build I was happy with. I am guessing that the v4 is much the same deck but with more juice capacity, it is very fiddly and as I am no longer a spring chicken so to speakand I did struggle to begin with, but with the awesome taste and clouds of warm vapour its well worth persevering. Feel free to pm me if you want any help but be aware I am learning a I go. Also anyone who can't get on with theirs I might be interested in relieving you of your problem lol. ORCHID is fantastic would like to see a rebuild vid on here if anyone would care to do one with alternatives to the straight forward kinda stuff I do.

Got my orchid v3 the other day. Dual coils of 28 kanthal on a 2mm drill bit came at at 1ohm. Wicked with jap cotton, not too much and half of the wick running down each juice channel. My trusty nautilus is now in the draw and I doubt will see the light of day again. More orchids shall be purchased very soon.

Pauly's review of the Orchid 3 did it for me, follow that and you'll get a great vape.

Selling my V3 now, as I prefer the full tank V4, which should be with me any day now.

So I replicated my first coil, with the wicking pictures from Pauly, but the damn thing still leaks. Leaks out the tip when I'm filling, then leaks out the air holes. Besides the gurgling it gets a nice vape goin' on. But the leaking is just horrid

Yep mines a pain in the bum, not using it anymore, and I'm waiting on a Clone Heron from FT, if I like it then I'll spend out the big money on a real one, if not then it's not too big a deal...

It leaks from the tip when you're filling? Have you checked the little o-ring where the chimney goes through? It's absolutely crucial that it's in place and forming a proper seal. I like to lube mine up a little with juice to form a better seal.

I had too much cotton in the first build, leaked a lot. Rewicked it with less cotton, definitely not in the juice channels and it's been fine since then. Rewicked again the same way, and again no leaks. It's not the coils ... it's getting the wicking right.

Refilling is a pain in the bum, I've had leaks twice during refiills ... the syringe is obstructed by the chimney so you have to go real slow on the refill or the juice finds its way into the chamber and floods out the airholes and drip tip. Slow, slow, slow, try to direct the juice down the walls ... or top fill whilst covering both airholes.

FT have a top refill cap for the Kayfun which fits, SKU 1815409. My thanks to Crumps for the suggestion.

Main issue I have with the Orchid is loss of flavour. I get plumes of vapour but the flavour loss is huge compared with other atties like the Heron, Rose, Flash-e-vapor and Spheroid. These atties have narrowing in the chimney section, the vapour is compressed and concentrated. The Orchid has a very wide bore and comes with a real bucket of a drip tip. I've put the narrowest bore drip tip I have on the Orchid and it improves the flavour big time. For me anyway.

That's actually really helpful guys, thanks. The filling and wicking is my biggest hangup

Hahahaha!! I got it! I'm so happy. I was having a problem making a seal that would keep it from leaking. After a couple different filling methods (and a lot of wasted juice...) I got the damn thing figured out. And I love it, so much better than the mess I was trying to make work
