Totally new to vaping but want to give up smoking but am confused as to what i am meant to buy
do i just buy a bottle of nic salt say 50mg strength 50/50 pg and put that in the tank and over the coils and away i go ? or are nic salts meant to be added to another e liquid you fill the pod tank up with ?

are nic salt products just e -liquid with nicotine in ? very confused here

on my shopping list are

TVDC OXVA Xlim C Coils - 5 Pack [0.8ohm]

OXVA Xlim C Replacement Pods

and of course the The OXVA XLIM c vape pod kit itself

but then what if I just want a vape that tastes a bit like tobacco and contains nicotine to help me stop smoking ?

am i meant to buy just a non freebase or freebase 50/50 nic salt product or an e-liquid and then add the nic salt to taste ?

Hi @richard richard and welcome to the planet.

I don't know you kit but the simplest way of explaining it is yes you just fill the tank and vape. But and it's a big but is deciding on what nic strength you need.
So for how long have you smoked and how many a day.
Then you chose if you want freebase nic or nic salts.
I'm guessing you may not be in the UK as we are limited on 20mg max strength while in America they have up to 50mg as you mentioned.
Salts enter the bloodstream much faster than freebase so you don't need as much otherwise there's a risk of feeling light headed or nauseas.
For me I chug away all day on 3mg but to start with 12-18mg of freebase or 20mg of salts is a good starting point.
In the UK if we want ready to vape bottles we are limited to 10ml max bottle size. Anything bigger and they are zero nicotine where we add nic shots. Not the best for a new starter as adding one nic shot to a 50ml of zero will make 60ml at 3mg strength so not strong enough for you.
You may cough at first for a week or so but that's normal and does ease off.
Hopefully others will be along to advise further as almost asleep here and typing on phone is not the easiest.

edit
now im awake

both.
as mentioned ill explain with 20mg strength.
if you want a strong hit then just use the bottle as is so fill tank and vape.
or it can be used as a dilutant in a shortfill. 50ml of zero in a large bottle adding the 20mg nic salt will make the final strength of around 3mg but doing this its best to use non flavourd salt shot so it doesnt change the flavour of the larger bottle.

but then what if I just want a vape that tastes a bit like tobacco and contains nicotine to help me stop smoking ?
then you buy a backy flavourd juice.

in the uk freebase nic as i said is only available in 10ml bottles at 3,6,9,12,18mg strength.
nic salts are availabe in 10ml 5,10,20mg strength (outside uk upto 50mg).

thanks for the reply yes I am in the uk so nic salt bottles are just e-liquid with nicotine in then and i fill the pod tank with nic salts ?

yes I am a 37 years a smoker 20 a day last 20 years roll ups filtered so I'll be needing 20mg nicotine I am sure

I think I understand I can mix it with regular e-liquid too just try and match the flavours

I bought an elfbar cream tobacco and find it okay I don't plan on using more disposables as they are so bad

ahh so your in the uk. only reason i thought otherwise is you mentioned 50mg which is illegal to buy here.
these are not nic salts but freebase but well worth a go. maybe get a 12 and 18mg to see how you get on. all 50vg/50pg.
all the nokomis range have backy background infused with fruits or dairy. 8 years of using da bush and never get board of them https://manabush.com/collections/the-nokomis-range
my go to are pow wow, chiricahua, nanabhozo and coyote.
any questions just ask away as the guvnor @ZT is a super mod on here.

its always worth shopping around for the kit as prices can vary quite a bit and there are always discounts flying around so always ask before you buy.

post 5 has our most used suppliers on then check the link at top of page here for discount vouchers POTV Vendors & Recommended E Liquid Suppliers

When you first buy e-liquid, make it a small amount. And buy one 10ml bottle of Salt Nic type and one of Freebase type.

You will prefer one specific type (and you may find one type gives you a sore/dry throat) so don't buy loads until you know your preference.

We're all different and other people's preference may not be yours - but if you only buy a small bottle of the 'wrong' liquid for you it is a relatively cheap mistake.

thanks for then tips guys i'll let you know how i get on but still confused a bit
so you buy nic salts or freebase and fill the tank and vape that or add nic salts to a tank full of regular e-liquid with or without nicotine in ? if so how much a few drops of nic salt in to a tank full of e-liquid
so why do e-liquids with nicotine already in exist ? don't you just buy an eliquid with the strength of nicotine in you need ? whats the point of nic salts then ?

or are freebase nic salts another name for an e-liquid that comes pre loaded with nicotine ?

There are two types of nicotine commonly available here.

Freebase nic : which is the original traditional nicotine used for years, it has a good throat hit and when mixed with flavourings over time “steeps” and deepens the flavourings, in my opinion it is better suited to tobacco and dairy/ dessert vapes than nic salt. Or any flavours that have a deeper more layered / complicated flavour profile such as tobaccos or desserts etc.
The higher the strength the more throat hit you get.

Nic salt - which has a very small throat hit, doesn't have the same chemical steeping capabilities as freebase and in my opinion is therefore more suited to fruits and ice and simple flavours. Because it has less throat hit people who dont like a throat hit can vape a higher strength without bursting into tears.

how to explain in the simplest terms.....

The law changed in 2016 with the implemntation of the TPD (tobacco products directive)
before this you could buy any size bottle pre mixed with nicotine.
after the implementation 10ml was the max size in the uk that could be pre mixed with nicotine.
all suppliers had to get every bottle and flavour and strength tested and submit to MHRA to be licenced for sale in the uk and the more flavours and strength the higher the cost to get tested. some spent upwards of 100 grand to keep their buisiness going.

so where i think you are getting confused, yes you can buy a nic salt say 20mg and vape that at a strength of 20mg which will be a 50vg/50pg ratio but you can also add the same bottle to a shortfill (usually 70vg) to make the final mix just over 3mg.

so to get around the law shortfills and nicotine shots were invented. shortfills are literally that a short filled bottle so for example 60ml bottle with 50ml zero nicotine juice with 10ml space. you cannot buy anything over 10ml with nic in it so you bought the bigger bottle and added 1 18mg nicotine shot. mixed with the 50ml of zero you ended up with 60ml at a strength of 3mg nicotine. as said shortfills are usually 70vg or 80vg so these are more suited towards sub ohm vaping with much more cloud at higher wattage.
soz bit rushed now as emergency work just come in so hope that makes sence as rushed typing it.
