Looking at getting some new cable in and am wondering how the sx350 16awg cable can handle 30a.
I can't find cable of this thickness capable of handing that amount.
Any advice?

Had this on the phoneight be handy to you, awg10 will take 30a enclosed.
Awg16 won't even in open space.

That's what I thought but how does the SX chips with 16awg do it? Is it because its not true amperage but pulsed?

Possibly because of pulse usage probably done to save space more than anything as 16awg is 2.5mm diameter and 10awg is 10.3mm diameter.

Where Sparky juice when you need him.

Most 16awg can handle 35amp bursts, after like 20secs the wire starts to heat up slowly. 16awg is not going to heat up like 0.2 coil at 35amps, it takes time for it to get stupid hot at 35amps. All depends on the length and if you wind-up the cable like a coil. In a 35amp mod 16awg is fine unless you chain vape for 30mins and by that time you would have to change batteries 5 times already.

Now remember there is difference between cheap Chinese wire and quality wire like Turnigy silicone wire that is rated for 35amps TURNIGY Silicone Wire.

depends on insulation really
ptfe insulated can be uprated due to heat proofing
2.5mm sq cable is really rated 20A protection
for short periods it is fine, more important is volt drop.
And why does everyone use AWG ?
I live in EU have used mm squared all my working life, all IEEE tables in regs book are mm squared (little niggle) @Seedy
and of course we're talking very shot runs (in my world) here only cms

actually 16AWG comes in at less than 1.5mm sq according to my calcs (pi r square)
max 18 amp continuous

ironically I'm suffering with cabling issues of my own here (BT variety)

Think awg thing comes from the world of RC, they seem to like awg, modders buy wire and stuff like that from RC site.

and as usual sparks explains things better than I do :)

I had a coil swimming in juice+cotton and fired it for 10 secs at 50watts, the middle of the coil was glowing red and burning @ 7secs, the 16awg wire didn't change in temperature.

1.3087 mm2

Found this cable guide for shorter runs, still not down to the lengths we use but gives a good indication how length affects the current capacity of cables. Hopefully it is useful
