ptfe insulated can be uprated due to heat proofing
2.5mm sq cable is really rated 20A protection
for short periods it is fine, more important is volt drop.
And why does everyone use AWG ?
I live in EU have used mm squared all my working life, all IEEE tables in regs book are mm squared (little niggle) @Seedy
and of course we're talking very shot runs (in my world) here only cms

actually 16AWG comes in at less than 1.5mm sq according to my calcs (pi r square)
max 18 amp continuous
