CDC Solicits E-Cig Users With Health Problems For TV Ads

I would love to meet some of these people in the flesh and actaully talk to them about what they are doing, 'what do you mean smokers are giving up without the use of tobacco or NRT? how very dare they!! it must be some form of witchcraft so we must do all that we can to ban it, before more people give up and live better and longer lives!'

You would be wasting your time, they are blinkered, only have one idea and that is their own, and no one can convince them otherwise, we are evil, thinking we know better than they do, about vaping.
Until we stop we are pariahs, well guess what CDC & WHO, you have got it all wrong, stop taking backhanders from Big Pharma and Big Tobacco, we KNOW what you are up to.

What's really frightening about this is that they seem to be trying to say that it's worse to vape than smoke.
And offer monetary bribes to get real people to back up the claim.
You'd think this would be illegal

Nothing is illegal in the ivory towers of pharma funded public health...

Though surely with the potential to be challenged in court.

There's no scientific evidence that vaping causes any health problems, so for an organisation to pay people to put forward anecdotal evidence to the contrary surely could be grounds for a law suit.

The vaping industry isn't even allowed to claim ecigs are an aid to smoking cessation, when there is clear and proven evidence that they are, so surely an organisation making a claim of health risks when none have been found is leaving itself open to litigation

The first bit I picked up on was this bit,
We are also looking for ex-smokers (age 20–60) who: For at least a year, used e-cigarettes or smokeless tobacco while continuing to smoke some cigarettes;

Note the "continuing to smoke some cigarettes" bit.
So what they are looking for, is dual fuellers.

Then we move onto this bit,
who have been diagnosed with these diseases while smoking:
Colorectal cancer (age 30–65)
Macular degeneration (age 40–65

Macular degeneration: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a painless eye condition that generally leads to the gradual loss of central vision. Hence the age group.

Colorectal cancer:
Cause[edit]

Greater than 75-95% of colon cancer occurs in people with little or no genetic risk.[6][7] Other risk factors include older age, male gender,[7] high intake of fat, alcohol or red meat, obesity, smoking and a lack of physical exercise.[6] Approximately 10% of cases are linked to insufficient activity.[8] The risk for alcohol appears to increase at greater than one drink per day

Neither of the conditions, as far as I can see, are smoking related. (unless someone knows better). They appear to be age related, whether you smoke or not. It looks like they are just going to use the words 'blind' and 'cancer' for more scaremongering. And they will look like right d.cks, when it's blown outta the water.

My OH has some macular degeneration thing at 43... smoking is as far as I am aware the biggest contributing lifestyle factor but other things may also contribute. .. genes certainly do and age is normally the biggest factor at his age it's fairly unusual. .. no treatment exists if you have an attack and are not seen very quickly as it can potentially detach the whole retina... which is the type he has... leading to total blindness in the eye rather than just partial vision obscurity. .. he still smokes but I keep trying to get him to use the ecigs. ..sad that bastards like this are trying to profit from people who are already suffering due to poor genes or lifestyle factors that have caused medical problems like this rather than funding treatments that could help those with these conditions. .. oh and colorectal cancers killed some people I know.. as far as aware not smokers necessarily and certainly not ecig users. ..meat and alcohol biggest risk factors apart from genetics. . doubt it could be a contributory factor but even if there is a mild increase in risk, you know what if we smoke we are risking a hell of a lot worse and they don't care as long as they make money off us... smoking will kill us, vaping may not be ideal but stops us from almost all of the health risks. .. but they would rather millions continue to smoke and die just to justify their fat pay checks. Bastards. ..

With a bit of noodling on the internet I tried to link nicotine (and hence NRT) to Colorectal cancer and Macular degeneration but it's difficult to know whether any "research" means smoking when they say nicotine. You go round in circles because as soon as you separate nicotine from smoking it becomes an NRT wonderdrug.

I did note that colon cancers are increasing in Asia. I wonder if that's the reason for the request for Asian participants?

Yes, sorry, I missed some info. on it.
Borrowed this,
Smoking is the biggest ‘modifiable’ risk factor for AMD – by stopping smoking you will reduce your chance of getting AMD and of your AMD progressing.

knome quite possibly. Also seems more smokers and also ecig users etc in china and india etc... who if they have then resettled to US they will likely be poor and etc.. so in need of cash and vulnerable and ripe to be exploited. .. or maybe am just being cynical :p
