@genuinej
There's nothing original in my method but is a mix of different methods i've seen on YT and POTV
I use a couple of ball bearing fishing swivels to hold to core wire at one end while I spin the wire with a drill at the other end. I use a small brass hook in the chuck of the drill to hold the wire, it stops the wire breaking off in the chuck.
Core wire 28g, 26g or thicker its up to you.
Outer wire 32g or thinner. Thinner is better less ramp up time.
Kanthal or nichrome whatever, but not tried this with nichrome yet. Soon.
The outer wire barely reduces the resistance, so ignore it when calculating how many wraps to do.
Cut off about 2 spool diameters of core wire (about 45cm), this is enough for 2 coils, make a loop in each end.
Hold the drill in your left hand, hook the core wire over the hook, attach the other end to the swivels and secure in a vise. Hold the swivels to they cant spin, pull the core wire tightish then pulse the drill to straighten the wire. Only just enough to straighten it.
Wrap the outer wire around the hook. Start the clapton off, keep the outer wire on the spool, holding it in right hand between thumb and finger (to maintain the tension) at 90 deg or slightly more to the core wire, start the drill and allow the clapton to wrap round the core. Tip: never put down the spool of wire without holding down the loose end or you'll end up in a right old mess.
No need to wrap the whole length, leave about 2 inches unwrapped. This gives you something to pull on when wrapping the clapton into a coil. TY @cloudcuckoo for this
If you get an overlap, reverse the drill while pulling on the clapton wire to unwind then you're ready to go again. Remember to change drill direction again. Dunno how good your eyes are but a cheapie pair of readers from £land will help you see what you're doing.
Oh and finally i wrap my claptons anticlockwise (reverse on drill) dunno why but it works for me.
