Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience with making their own concentrates? Or know where I can find some information about doing so. Would you please kindly point me in the right direction.

If so developing synthetic flavours safely is a very complicated and expensive process. The flavour to be emulated is analysed in a spectrometer to identify all constituent chemicals. All the chemicals on the list known not to be involved with flavour are then removed, as well as all that are harmful. Next synthetic versions of the chemicals are obtained and mixed together in the correct proportions, in each mix one of the chemicals is left out. This is repeated until the minimum number of chemicals is found required to emulate the flavour.

I made a few tobacco concentrates,wasn't difficult....

Select a lump of raw tobacco leaves
Feed this into a coffee grinder to turn it into tiny pieces
Measure out 20-25 ml of PG
Place the PG & tobacco leaves in a glass (heat-proof) jar (I used an old jam jar,but the 2nd jar I used shattered instantly it contacted the boiling water)
Pan of boiling water
Taking care not to scald oneself, hold the jar of PG+tobacco in the boiling water for approx 20-30 mins
Filter the liquid through either a very fine sieve or coffee filter paper(takes forever to run through these)
Bottle the liquid & place in a cupboard for a few weeks,to allow the remaining solids to settle.

I now have umpteen bottles of assorted flavour tobacco concentrates(virginia/burley etc)for whenever I decide to resume vaping tobacco flavours.

I avoided anything tobacco for a year or so after starting vaping. Then developed a taste for only tobacco based juices, but this need only lasted a few weeks before my tastes resumed custards/fruits.

The above directions also can be used to create coffee concentrate, using fresh coffee beans ground or a tablespoon of ready ground coffee(I like a particular Fairtrade ready ground bean so made myself a few 30ml bottles of coffee+cream, which tastes almost as nice as the real thing)

While this method will obtain the flavour you want, it could also include loads of harmful chemicals that you shouldn't be inhaling

Nice. Where did you source the tobacco? Pipe tobacco?

I agree, though emphasis needs applied to the "COULD" part of your post.Lots of things "could" harm you,so I tend to apply a large lump of commonsense.

The tobacco was bought from an online store, the raw tobacco isn't taxed anywhere nearly as much as the cigarette variety so 100 grams was about £3 (I've lost the URL for the store I had) & I doubt my old post with the relevant information in it will still be available.

Menthol can be made by dissolving Menthol Crystals in to PG.

That's very true, just as the many chemicals in any flavourings COULD react with each other when heated to form other nasties. But at least the known nasties have been removed from those flavourings, it's all a risk, you just need to weigh it up. Studying Chemistry I've learned that common sense on the macro scale doesn't necessarily apply on the micro scale. Anyway like you say it's not a definite either way, and it's entirely up to everyone to find what they're comfortable with, just wanted to put the information up so people reading can make up their own minds about it. At the end of the day it's all still better than smoking :-)
