Did the last lockdown not work then?

Seems not given the increase in areas now in the higher tiers.
I'm completely perplexed tbh how hard is it to realise somethings not working.
Maybe Boris needs to be turned off then on again?

I think the answer is "Of course they worked, the NHS wasn't overwhelmed was it?"

He definitely needs and wack about his head like your dad did to the tv when it didn't work.

IMO, the lockdown didn't work because too many people ignored the recommended restrictions.

It's these people that will moan the most when all of January is another lockdown and they've only themselves to blame.

The problem is people weren’t following it, there was still visits to houses no one was giving you space in the shops and people still aren’t wearing masks when there meant to.

so no matter how many lockdowns they have it will never be fully effective IMO

But Kent for example was in tier 1 before lockdown and now they've gone into the highest tier which suggests cases must have increased during lockdown.

it’s interesting, the variation. i recently saw somebody in a shop without a mask, it was the first and only time i’ve seen it since they introduced it here. in june, maybe?

i’m guessing it didn’t work because educational establishments didn’t close and a load of other things stayed open.

where i live we are in scotland’s level 4, which means non essential shops are closed. for some reason they decided homeware shops are essential. this means that all these daft bohemian gift shops round my way are open selling jewellery, birthday cards, novelty goods, ornaments and whatever other stupid crap they sell, because they also happen to stock a bodum coffee press, or creuset dutch ovens or a chair made from varnished bits of fallen tree wood. it’s madness.

It’s worked in the sense that daily new cases of Covid are starting to go down, so that should be followed by a decrease in hospitalisations and deaths. But it’s only been 3 weeks, I’m not sure how much can realistically be expected to change in that time.

Could it be the schools?
Kids seem to spread every other bug out there and they are saying there is high spread in households.

Kent has hotspots. About a week before this lockdown Swale had the highest cases in England and rising, so we were facing a higher tier, but for some reason they didn't implement it until now. I guess they didn't bother because they knew the lockdown was coming in.
