Difference Between 1.6 and 1.2 Ohm Coils?

I just bought a new MTL kit (Adept Zlide) and it came with 1.6 Ohm coils. Whilst it's been decent, I can't help but think I may prefer moving down to 1.2 Ohm coils instead. The reason being, my partner uses 0.48 ohm coils and they just taste/feel better. I'm not planning on going that low, but the next ohm down from the 1.6 is the 1.2 Zenith coils.

I'm just curious what kind of differences I should expect with it though. Is anybody able to explain and perhaps list the pros/cons of 1.6 compared to 1.2 and the main differences please?

Much appreciated, thank you.

they are rated the same for wattage according to this chart here (which may be out of date?) the biggest difference seems to the wicking material.

I was going to suggest that there wouldn't be a big difference, it's all personal preference though, the 0.48 is a mesh type coil which is why you might prefer those because that will be a noticeable difference. If you like those use those, it doesn't really matter what the resistance is, it means nothing out of the context of everything else.

I'd use the 0.48, but I always assumed that anything below 1 Ohm was for 'Direct to Lung' as opposed to MTL. It just seems a bit strange that they'd use sub 1 ohm coils in a MTL device.

Lots of MTL devices use coils that are under 1ohm these days. The difference between the 1.2 and 1.6 z-coils is negligible really but I actually find the 1.6 slightly better and last longer than the 1.2. if you like the 0.48 better then use that, at the end of the day vaping is all about what suits the individual, if it works for you then go with it.

No, that's was the case when all coils were basically the same, but resistance is no longer a reliable guide on it's own.... especially with mesh coils and other new coil technologies... you can't really make a mesh coil over 1ohm (I've never seen one anyway) and it doesn't vape the same as a wire kanthal coil. The stainless coils I use are never over 1 ohm either.

Thanks for the replies. I must ask though, whilst the difference may be negligible as stated, surely there has to be SOME kind of difference between the 1.6 and the 1.2 though? Even if it's barely noticeable, what kind of difference would I be looking at when going to the 1.2 from the 1.6? More/less throat hit, warmer/colder vapor, anything like that?

I only ask as the Zenith coils I use come in 1.6, 1.2, 1.0, 0.8, and 0.48 and as a newish person to vaping I dont really know the differences between them at all. I need to order some new coils as well, but want to make sure I'm getting the right ones before I spend my money. I did like the 0.48 yes, but I still wonder if any of the other coil strengths would be more optimal for me.

Thanks again.

Hiya, ok so for me I find the 1.6 a slightly tighter draw than the 1.2 which is what I like, I like the restriction that the 1.6 gives. The other thing for me was that I found that the 1.6 lasts longer than the 1.2.
As to which coils would suit you best it's a tricky one to recommend as some people will like the 1.6 best, others will prefer the 0.5 or the 0.48 and it's really a matter of trial and error as to which one would suit you. What wattage are you vaping at btw?

I'm currently vaping at 12 watts with my 1.6 coils. I'm not even sure if that's correct, but it seems okay I suppose. I get a choice of 11, 12, 13, 14 watts with the 1.6 coils.

Reason I asked is that you said you tried the 0.48 coil and liked it and on the adept that will give you 14, 15, 16, 17w so maybe you enjoy a warmer vape. If that's the case then maybe try one of the under 1ohm coils like the 0.8.

If that's the power you like it at then it's 'correct' if not adjust it. The adept was designed to work perfectly with the Z-Coil range so you don't have to worry or even think about this stuff. :)

What you might find is that you get nicer flavour with one of the other coil types, with another type you might find your coil lasts longer.

at that point you need to decide which is more important to you, if you are willing to sacrifice a few days on the coil life for better flavour.

My bro-inlaw uses the 0.5ohm Plexus ones, they work best for him.
