I've been sitting here for weeks with a DNA40 Big Screen, Fat Daddy 510 V4 etc.

My original intention was to stuff them into a FT triple 18650 battery bank (a la VaporFlask).

Sadly that's no longer a possibility as my workshop is now all packed away in removals boxes. :(

I have some soldering kit I can still use so I want to find an enclosure I can just drop this stuff into with minimum mechanical work. (A bit of hand filing at most.)

Rob StealthVape's enclosure is the closest I've come so far but it's for a standard screen. I see one reviewer has modified it for a Big Screen apparently but there are no details. EDIT: Found it! It's here but some milling was necessary.

Any suggestions please? I want something really easy as I can only work hunched up over a rickety Workmate in the garden!

Don't get a black China hana they are painted (not anodized like the other colors) and its cheap paint.

I can machine the window bigger for you if you want. I've got silver/red anodized enclosure that make the screen cutout bigger if you are interested.

Wow, thanks for the offer! Getting a neat finish to the window was my main concern. I think everything else should be fairly straightforward according to this .

I wanted to get the enclosure from SV as it comes with all the other bits as well so, unless there are any other bright ideas I'll order one up and PM you in due course if that's OK?

Thanks again!

Hi, just finished my dan40 wide screen in the stealthvape enclosure.

Please excuse really crappy camera & thumb prints all over (should have wiped it first ^^)

It is pretty easy once you know what to expect :-/ , it first off looks like all you need to do is take a hand "hobbyists" file to the display hole (which you do and thats easy , just take it easy) but you must be aware that the screen will NOT fit into the Oval recess on the inside of the case even though it looks like it should/would. If you only file off the guide rails on the dna board mount that are for the small screen you will crush the screen against the box and break it. You must file out an area for the screen on the screen mounting area on the board mount i.e. you file down the guide rails and then KEEP GOING until the screen can be recessed into the "front" of the mount, the screen must be level or below the flat front of the plastic board mount or it will crush!

Also i filed some perspex to fit the recess behind the display opening to cover and protect the screen/chip from juice or whatever and added a spring 510 22mm which also means some adjustment to the board mount but no biggy there.

Thanks for this post Jack. Good work, I'm green with envy!

My SV enclosure arrived last week and I realised it wasn't worth getting the window milled; it just needed careful filing (as you have done).
(I like your idea of filing down the screen sled. That never occurred to me. :( )

Then I realised I needed to tap the 510 hole for a Fat Daddy. Which means searching through 50 very heavy, neatly stacked, removals boxes for my tap sets. (Or drilling the hole out to 10mm and epoxying which kinda offends my engineering sensibilities.)
The project stalled there and then!

Could you tell me the dimensions you filed the window out to please?
I'm guessing from your picture it's about the width of the oval recess and about the full length of the screen - so about 12 x 25mm?

yea 25-27mm wide (i have 27 but if you position right you can get a closer display fit at 25mm , 10mm high.

To double check its not going to crush the corner of the screen (as i did with my first screen) I filed the recess in the mount and then sat the mount on a flat table (my recess side down) and then slid the screen right through the recess under the mount. It needs to be able to pass right under without resistance while the mount is held hard against the table top , if it can slide fully under the sled/mount then you know it will be fine. Stick it on with whatever (tiny bit of superglue , i used double sided just in case of removal) and your away, just need to think what to fit into that oval recess in the case to act as a window and make sure whatever it is is not thicker than the recess depth or the screen might crush against that too, :)

Yea i did get a fat daddy but in the end i used the redacted which is prob the longest 510 but i could use the nut (although that still causes problems with fitting the case because of the centre divider but nothing a dremal cant sort).

EDIT:- o BTW Rob at stealthvapes told me that they are getting a big screen enclosure soon (didnt say exactly when)

Also iv been looking at these DIY Mod Shop by jonniemac on Shapeways but im not 100% sure about 3d printed plastic boxes , but interesting.

Thanks very much indeed Jack. I assume you mean 15mm high rather than 5mm!?

Very good tip on recessing the screen sled - ta!

I've no idea what to use as a window glass. All my perspex is in the damn boxes, as are my dremels sadly. Maybe I'll just wrap the thing in clingfilm!

I spoke to Rob before I bought the enclosure but I sort of guessed it might be a long wait for the wide screen version (by which time the DNA40 V2 GT Turbo will be flavour of the month!).

I had a quick look at the Shapeways link. There are no pictures of a real, finished item so I'd steer clear unless you can get a firm recommendation. (I have tried making stuff on my own printer (also in a damn box :(); it took a huge amount of trial and error to produce even simple stuff to an acceptable standard.)

Thanks again,

Bob.

o yea sorry god knows how i managed that but its actually 10mm high (shall edit the other post, thx) (i double checked the width , thats correct)

Yea well i'v decided that chasing vape tech is not such a good idea it just costs so much money. I'v spent 2K this year just to figure out what i like/dont like but i think i know what i need to satisfy me and my partner now, I shall try to force myself to slow right down on the vape spending.

Well we'll see :D

About your 510, do you really have to thread it? maybe just hot glue or silicone or even epoxy if you want permanency (both along the thread and under the 510 plate. You should be able to solder the ground wire to it somewhere there.

Lovely job Greg, I'll chase up the guy that's producing the enclosures for the big screen 40 this week as I'm hopeful they're ready to send samples out.

Loving the temp protection & power available :D Thank you Rob :D ,
