well the best thing to do would be to just stick a decent multimeter on the grounds and see if they are all common which is what i'll do next time.

Just noticed this on FB DNA group :
The switches on the Zero clones use a common ground, this is unacceptable for use with the DNA40 board. you will have to change switches or cut the traces on the sub board to eliminate the common ground. That is providing yours is the clone. ran into this myself about 2 months ago. hope that helps.
