As I'm about to start my mixing journey I realise it's best to start mixing small quantities to start with.

I've already ordered some 1ml syringes but if I'm just making 5 or 10 ml at a time some flavours need such small amounts added that I think dealing in drops would be more accurate.

Only thing is I don't know what kit to buy to be able to dispense accurate drops into my mix.

If anyone could suggest what to buy I'd be very very grateful.

Hi @MarylinC37 , drops can be a little hit and miss. i really would use a syringe or even try mixing by weight.

A 1ml syringe will easily measure 0.1 ml accurately enough.
If you want to measure by drops, use the bottle your flavour comes in, remove plunger from syringe, Put finger over the bottom of the syringe and count how many drops for 0.1ml them multiply for the amount required.

I just found a 5ml graduated cylinder on ebay which has lines every 0.1 ml so using that with a 1ml syringe looks like the best way to go.

Thanks guys.

I'm a thug and a heathen, I use drops just as they come out of the flavour bottle. It's highly unscientific but it works for me. I can't be arsed with syringes and scales to get an exact 0.1ml of this and that. And in all honesty I'm not sure I'd even notice the difference if the mix was a few drops out.

Someone has recommended weight to me as the best measuring technique.

Whatever works for the individual. To be honest, when i started mixing i tried to get the quantities and ratios exact but as the years have gone on i t

I only mix by weight now. Saves time, more exact, cleaner, quicker, easier.

@Richard Winter I think you might have been that "someone" actually :)

These days I only mix in cylinders.
It is worth having a few different sizes, as batch sizes will get bigger once you are fairly happy with your 10 ml samples.

The starting small is definitely a very good idea to avoid waste, but we soon move on to larger batches.
I am happy to mix a few 100ml batches every few months. Some like playing with smaller batches and others with larger ones.

I am sure others will be along to support Richard in the view that scales are just so much better.

Cylinders are cheap, simple and last longer.

Let the volume/weight wars start again:).

I'll let you guys with more experience fight that one out between you. Tell me who wins! LOL
