Hello Fellow Vapers

I have just received my first dripper, a dark horse form bigdaddy

It already has a dual coil build on it, looks like each coil is 3mm internal diameter, 8 wraps? and think .5mm kanthal

I was trying to dry burn the coil, it now reading .3 ish ohms but running a 40w regulated mod it takes 5-6 seconds just to start glowing but not getting it all of the way

What sort of watts would you need to vape this dual coil

Also have some 0.5 kanthal so build an alternatives, what would you suggest, have some kanger pre built o.5 coils as well, would these work ?

Have some lumberjacks top secret on standby, any advice would be welcome

Pics of deck as it is:

Get yourself some 26 Gauge Kanthal and try something like 6 wraps over a 2.5-3mm screwdriver. Start learning how to make dual coils that are twins, basically exactly the same - same resistance on each, same positioning, same kind of even glow on both, same ramp up time etc etc.

Mess around with different power settings, thicker wire can take some oomph so it needs more power to get it going.

Take one step at a time.

Bin that build or buy a heavier hitting mod - thats the first option. - naaaaaah

Second option is convert its into single coil - naaaaaah

3rd option would be take some of that .5 kanthal you have and do 6 wraps around a 2.5mm bit - single coil. Ramp will be nice and it'll be a nice vape too.

At 35 watts(ish) on that build you'll have enough clouds to keep you happy for now.

Thanks cloudcuckoo

How about round a 3mm bit, all I have with me at the mo, would you suggest spaced or touching eg micro coil ?

3mm would work, it'll jump you from .5 to about .6 - which at this point prob meana very little and you're on a vw device so you can tune it in to your liking.

Always build contact coils, again its preference but they are sturdier to work with.

Build a couple and have a play chap.

Ok so had a go and here is the result

Quite pleased with coils themselves, came out .3ohm so perhaps another wrap next time

Wicking is a bit messy and as you can see got a bit burnt

So more questions

Should I centre both of the coils rather than have them offset ?

The Dark Horse does not have very deep juice well, how often would you expect to have to re-juice, puffs, pulls, vapes etc

Screws are a bit gunked up and centre cross slot a bit worn, anyone know where I can repalcements, would I be better with hex screws and if so same question, no idea what size or thread these are

Thanks for the help, nearly there

You dont have to centre them but its good practice to do so as some atties demand it.

Rejuicing? Thats a bit of string question, length of pull, wattage, wicking material all play a part. At first keep an eye on it and you'll soon learn that when the flavour/vapour drop off its time to juice up.

Screws, maybe try screws of destiny from stealthvape.

Anyways, looks a tidy start that, cloudy enough?

Oh yes plenty of cloud

For some reason I was expecting a hot & harsh vape but its the other way round very smooth dense and tasty vape and tasty, even compared to the Crown, can see the attraction now

Thanks for the advice

Update this morning, did my second build at silly o'clock this morning with central coils which allows much better wicking and its just superb, ridiculous clouds

Thanks gerry and city461 the Lumberjacks Top Secret is gorgeous, no wonder you sell it 100ml bottles, cant see it lasting very long :(
