Hi all, just thought I'd post a dumb moment I had earlier.
I bought a pair of pre wrapped fused claptons to try on my tfv8 big baby rba. I then installed them very neat and felt happy with myself before proceeding to pulse them to look for hot spots and so on. Anyways what happened was they glowed outside in very bright and then (pop)! One leg snapped or melted!. After being very puzzled for a moment I looked and realised I had been pulsing them at 80 watts! Should of checked that first I think LOL

I can beat that. I did the cloud beast at 130w and melted the coils into the RBA. luckily the mod was fine though

I think what hurt more for me was I only bought one pair to try and probably not the cheapest lol only wanted to see if the 80+ watt range with them was too hot as I usually vape around 50.

Hi @Moooface. At least it's just expensive coils lost, not fingers or teeth lol! But I hear ye on the "trying new things"; I'm currently trying TC squonking. It's going ok so far, but it's definitely different than wattage vaping lol.

Lots of information on here. Probably to much sometimes but at least its the right information. What your experience is now will benefit others in the long term. We all need the test pilots new or old. And dumb questions don't exist on this planet .

You should be able to pulse a pair of fused Claptons at 80 watts, there must have been some other issue.

Perhaps the sleeve had come away at some point, leaving just the inner of the coil.

Edit: I was thinking SS coils, but if they were Kanthal of course they couldn't take 80 watts.

Too much power focused in too small an area of the coil (hot spot). Best to start at a lower wattage for the initial strumming, till it's slightly glowing from the centre out. No need to go too high in power, until the coils are wicked and wet.

You can order a taster coil pack with lots of different coil types.
