I've just read the ECITA blog on the Diacetyl found in VIP butterscotch eliquid and the whole saga from their angle.

An interesting read. I haven't watched Inside Out yet but I wonder how much of the truth came out. Whilst of course we must work hard to ensure this ingredient is kept away from eliquid, it puts the risk in to some perspective at least

As you say good to hear the other side, and it does put things in perspective.

I'm just interested to know where VIP purchase their concentrates from. I would expect a company like VIP to buy their flavourings from respected manufacturer, and is aware of the inherent risk. It just surprised me it was them.

I watched it, really wished I had TV that I could reach into the screen and punch the presenter or their interviewee.

f**kin assholes eh - where was the opposing view?

I have to admit that I'd never thought of diactyl being present in cigarettes! I know they add flavours including caramel types but I never made the connection before. Good read which unfortunately will probably mean very little to the world outside the vaping community, especially in the current bombardment from the media that we seem to be getting!

One of my suppliers uses a butterscotch that they warn contains diacetyl, I know this as I ordered some but got a phone call from them to say they wouldn't be sending it due to the diacetyl (these are not a well known flavour supplier as I use a few different ones)

It is good to know that they understand their ingredients and it makes me wonder where the VIP flavours were from as if a little known supplier is aware of the Diacetyl risk then I would expect larger ones to also.

As the article stated though the levels in ecigs are much lower than the smoke we used to willingly inhale. In cases where Acetoin and Acetyl propionyl are used instead of Diacetyl it can catalyse at high temperature to diacetyl but at very small levels again.

To me though it goes to show how much effort eliquid companies try to go to in order to minimise risk entirely. When was the first time you heard of Diacetyl? I bet it wasn't when you smoked...
