Firstly, we are pleased to announce a raft of new (or old!) products from the esteemed Five Pawns.
We are now stocking the Legacy Collection (USA favourites from years past revived and collected by Five Pawns - including the excellent Cowboy - which would look quite at home next to a bottle of Deadwood!

Disposable Vapes Ban - but it looks like they may not stop there - New threats to vaping.
As I am sure a lot of you have seen in the news - the Government, in its infinite capacity to randomly pick subjects it feels may gain it some votes, has decided to implement a raft of measures to - as it puts it “tackle underage vaping’ - Now anyone that reads our blogs knows that we at Manabush have never been behind Disposable Vapes, have on many occasions warned of the optics on the industry in terms of the waste and environmental factors it has created (and let’s not kid ourselves it HAS created much environmental waste). At the same time, we understand that disposables have very possibly enticed many smokers over to vaping - and that in itself can only be a good thing, right? I mean, to be honest - reusable pod systems and starter kits also enticed many smokers from smoking to vaping; possibly the disposable nature of these products has enticed more - but I’m not sure it has been worth the cost to the industry to the environment or its apparent attraction to kids, and here we are reaping the rewards of a couple of years of everything being disposable - as we predicted back at the start when these things first started to become available.
...Wait stop!
You know - when I started to write this - it was supposed to be objective and not have my personal feelings on disposable vapes bared for all to see - especially as the industry and vapers are so polarised over disposable vapes. I intended just to report the facts as I understand them without prejudice - but it looks like I’m finding that difficult.
I will try again.
A list of proposals in a raft of new Government legislation on vaping.
- Disposable Vape Ban on single-use disposable vapes
- Possible restrictions on E-liquid Flavourings (rumours say limited to “Tobacco, Menthol, Mint, Fruit”)
- Plain packaging on all products
- Vapes and e-liquids to be hidden behind counters
- A vape tax (rumours say 25% or more)
What does this mean for us?
Honestly, we do not know yet - and will not until more announcements are made - but rest assured, we will do our utmost to continue to innovate and supply as and where we can.
How do we feel about it? (personal opinions)
On the disposable vape ban:
Difficult to say … I don’t really agree with banning anything. Still, I think in this day and age of hyper-awareness of Environmental factors and the negative press that disposable vapes have constantly had since they have been made the driving force behind vaping and their ease of availability to the youth - a ban was ultimately inevitable - if not especially desirable. Perhaps a fairer way of dealing with the environmental factors would be a ban on ALL single-use devices that use a rechargeable battery - not just vape stuff; it’s all a waste. The underage vaping problem could have been tackled by enforcing existing laws. New laws will not make enforcement any more successful if they have not enforced the existing ones.
Restrictions of E-liquid Flavourings
This one worries us most obviously - and I fail to see how it is enforceable to an extent; tobacco itself is available in many different flavours, cherry, whisky, etc - all available as pipe tobacco and specialist tobaccos. What constitutes a “Sweet Tobacco”? What is a fruit Flavour? Is a Raspberry Cola a Fruit flavour? bearing in mind cola is a nut of the cola tree? Many people can’t tell the difference between a mint and a menthol! why are those two separate categories? What about dessert flavours? Do they really think nice flavours are only desirable to kids? I mean, we as adults HATE a custard flavour, right ? “sigh” Yes - that was sarcasm.
Thought - do we need to ban flavoured gin, baileys and vodka?
Plain Packaging
It’s not ideal, and I can’t see a benefit from it - but in truth, it’s not the end of the world, I guess, more .. utterly pointless.
Vapes being hidden
Frankly - I think vapes should be in vape shops, I don’t think kids should be allowed in vape shops - problem solved. Taking vapes out of the corner shop would also go a long way to stopping kids from getting their hands on them. The legal ones, anyway. This also brings up the issue of illegal disposable vapes - A ban is not going to stop that - they already do not care that they are breaking the law. Again enforcement in the first instance would have sorted this.
A Tax of at least 25%
Clearly … no one wants this - and it makes no sense to tax a product that has successfully helped millions of smokers to switch to a healthier lifestyle, so it looks like we may be funding the government’s immense financial COVID mistakes.
