Ethanol base for DIY mixing?

Hi all,
I'm gonna start having a go at making my own juices. I was gonna get an aniseed concentrate but it had an ethanol base instead of PG or VG.
Is this ok or a big no no?

And what is ethanol?
Is it alcohol?

Ethanol is also used in carrying flavour concentrates its just pure grain alcohol which is ok and is used in many eliquids to give throat hit or to use instead of PG where there are intollerances


I don't use it myself.
