Evod and ego problem

I decided to have a change from the CE5s. I was getting a bit tired of floods and leaks and had read some good stuff about evods. I've only had my evod for a day or so and I'm a little disappointed, lots of gurgling and flooding but this isn't the main issue. When I swapped batteries this evening I screwed on the evod and the battery died, clicking the button wouldn't fire, no light or anything. I thought maybe I'd got a flat battery mixed up so tried another and exactly the same thing happened. I put the batteries on charge and after a couple of minutes they were showing fully charged again. I don't want to try again in case I damage the batts, they are ego c batts btw. Back to the ce5s for now.

any ideas? Sorry if this has been covered before.

Could be a number of things, maybe the evod tripped the short circuit protection on your battery? Do any other atties work on it?
Does it appear to be a genuine evod? I've seen some nasty clones out there with some awful stock coils

Hi, thanks for the reply, I was thinking it might be shorting. Could well be a fake, there's no writing on it and the screw thread isn't the best of fits. Although, I've read that not all genuine evods have the name printed on?

I have vision eGo batteries and Smok eGo batteries here and the only time if you push the button that they don't light up (without anything screwed onto them) is if the batteries are completely flat - or they are turned off.

Are you sure you didn't turn them off by mistake (click the button 5 times) I'm not sure if *all* eGo's work the same way though.

Evods rarely leak, once in a blue moon you'll get a duff one but it's a kanger evod with a kanger head on it unless you've spilt juice down the middle centre channel when you filled it or you've not screwed it back together properly they are pretty solid.

To fill an evod. i) check that the head is tightened into the base piece (finger tight is plenty good enough) ii) hold top upside down and tip evod as you fill it and fill down the sides, when the e-liquid gets just below the level of the centre part stop iii) screw the base onto the evod and turn the right way up iv) dry the mouthpiece off with paper towel if you got any e-liquid down the centre screw it on to battery and it should be fine.

If it's flooded take it off the battery and holding it pointing up at 45 degrees or so blow firmly through the mouthpiece (it helps to hold some paper towel over the bottom end) to blow out any juice that's flooding it. It'simportant when you blow it out not to have it pointing downwards. If it's pointing down all you do is keep blowing more liquid into the centre and then out of the base and you'll empty the tank before e-liquid stops coming out. If you clear it out and then it floods again and the tank is still more than 1/4 full then the head is duff, try swapping it for a different one.

Some heads can flood a little bit right as they get almost empty which is normal, top it up, blow it out and it'll be fine again.

Do you have any spare heads? I'm guessing even a clone could serve as well as branded with a decent head/coil.

Though I'm no expert with electronics, like you, I'd be wary of trying again in case it's shorting out and damaging the battery. I'd get another head on it and try again.

True it's no easy task to identify a fake - Kanger haven't helped that by constantly changing them between batches. If I recall the first batch had EVOD BCC on the tank, then there was a blank batch and the most recent batch have Kangertech etched onto the bottom cap.

Sound advice from Fleabag it may be worthwhile trying a new head.

Just had a brainwave... From the factory the coil heads ship a little bit loose and definitely need hand tightening. If this was missed it might explain the leaking, however I can't explain the no light from the battery unless it's a unique feature to your egos.

If you do get some leaking, when you unscrew the base you will find a little silicone seal on the "chimney" part of the base. Try taking this off and turning it upside down before you screw it back together, and that will sometimes give a better seal. Also make sure the head is screwed tightly into the base as mentioned, because that might not only be causing some leakage but also not completing the circuit which might explain the other problem as already mentioned.

It sounds to me like a dodgy head shorting the battery - I've had this when I've re-built heads badly. I'd definitely try another head.

Although it sounds logical that a clone body with a genuine head should work fine, in my experience it's not always the case. I had one Evod that I suspected to be a fake that would never work properly, even with a genuine base and head fitted. Makes no sense whatsoever, and I could never work it out, but after many combinations it went in the bin.

Evods from a reputable source, with genuine heads, are my joint favourites with mini-Protanks. The only time I experience any gurgling or leaking is when I've vaped them too low and/or the head is gunked up, and then I've had some juice leak in to the battery connector. Other than that, I've never had any sort of leak from one.

swapping the head out is sound advice. I recently got a couple of Evods and one worked fine but the other produced no vapour at all with the head's chimney in place(plenty when taken off)no matter what I did. Chucked in a spare prot-tank head and works a treat.

Wow, thanks for all the replies and info! I've tried most of the suggestions and no change. I haven't been able to try a different head yet but I will do that next.

Where would that be? :) are we allowed to mention specific vendors on here?

I find the whole clone thing quite annoying, even if they work exactly the same as the genuine stuff. You've been sold one thing and received something different, in many cases they're not even cheaper. I've had this with the ce5s too. Luckily my batts are the real deal.
