Evod and ego problem

Seems I've toasted one of my batts, it now appears to function as normal ie. it lights up, turns off after 5 clicks etc. but it doesn't fire when a clearo is put on, it lights up but no vape. Sounds like the centre pin issue but I've tried that too, no joy. Looks like I'll write it off.

This evod was quite a poor fit, I had to screw it down quite tight to get it to stop wobbling, I've a feeling this may have caused the problem. Anyone with evods, is this normal or do they fit nicely on ego batteries?

And last question, can anyone recommend somewhere to get a new batt? These were joyetech ones, should I go for the same? I don't want some dodgy clone thing :)

Damn.... should've stuck with my original setup, it was fine!!

The more you talk about this evod - the more it sounds like a dodgy fake. Evods are designed to fit onto eGo batteries and Joyetech are a very good make of eGo. If you've got to screw it on tight to the battery to make it work then i) this is pushing down the eGo centre post and ii) the head that's screwed into the base isn't screwed down tight enough, or is the wrong size. The base part of an evod head is the bit that makes contact with the centre post on the battery also if it's not screwed in tightly to the base then too much liquid gets into the centre channel and it floods and gurgles.

If an eGo is lighting up but not firing a clearo then either the coil on the clearo is no good, or the centre pin is no good 99.9% of the time. If you've got a multi meter or know a mate that's got one then you can test whether the battery is working or not pretty easily.

Joyetech/Smoktech/Vision are all decent makes for eGo batteries if you want to avoid clone things and lots of vendors sell them.

Though I did go through the dreaded Ebay for my first Evod, I spent a little more for one that was described as genuine Kanger. I know that doesn't necessarily 100% guarantee it, but I figured if it turned out to be a clone, I had a stronger case with Ebay/Paypal. I had no problem with it.

I've since bought a couple more from FT, which were not described as genuine Kanger, but are equally fine (and of course the much lower price made it less of a gamble).

The Evod should fit well on the Ego, and with it being an Ego thread, it looks good on the battery.

It sounds to me like you were just unlucky with this tank. I wouldn't let it put you off, as the Ego/Evod is a great set-up, especially for out & about.

Hi Captain, before you bin the battery. You said you screwed the evod right down to stop it wobbling.
You have probably done the same as I do all the time, and pushed the battery Centre pin down. Try easing the pin back up with a fine needle, or something similar. They are in a rubber grommet that wears with time.

It sounds to me like a dodgy head shorting the battery - I've had this when I've re-built heads badly. I'd definitely try another head.

Although it sounds logical that a clone body with a genuine head should work fine, in my experience it's not always the case. I had one Evod that I suspected to be a fake that would never work properly, even with a genuine base and head fitted. Makes no sense whatsoever, and I could never work it out, but after many combinations it went in the bin.

Evods from a reputable source, with genuine heads, are my joint favourites with mini-Protanks. The only time I experience any gurgling or leaking is when I've vaped them too low and/or the head is gunked up, and then I've had some juice leak in to the battery connector. Other than that, I've never had any sort of leak from one.

Makes sense to me. I've had evod heads short in the past. Once the wires are nudged away from the steel cup theyve been ok though

Thanks for all the info people, I did try the centre pin trick but no joy unfortunately. All the lights function as normal but no firing, seems to be toast. Do you think it would be reasonable to ask for a refund for the heads and the evod? Anyway, I did ask but the vendor failed to respond. I think they thought as I'd over tightened that it was down to user error. I've been vaping over 6 months so despite how it may sound I'm not a complete noob :D

Anyway, ready to move on but a refund would have been nice.

Finally, I'm sure this has been covered before but what do you do with your old batts?

Cheers all

That's a shame, at the very least you should expect a response from the vendor explaining their stance on the matter. I would say contact them again in case they missed it for whatever reason, it does happen :)

Li-ion batteries should be fine with shops or recycling centres that provide battery recycling bins, but of course check first
