What's new

experimentation

I'm a believer. It's much better to run a lipo at a fraction of it's potential rather than suck every amp out of a 18650.

If there are idiot proof chargers available and some means of fusing the box sufficiently without having to use fuses the side of a large letter stamp or ones without too much internal resistance then I'm all for it.

I'm working on the possibility of a bimetallic thermal/current cut out. Need to speak to a man who knows.

With regards chargers, hobby chargers are a country mile beyond the cheapo stuff we use to charge 18650 cells, you just cannot compare the two. They've improved a lot too, you used to have to use a 12vdc bench power supply or a leisure battery, now they have a built in 240vac - 12vdc supply, spend thirty quid and you can hook up to your pc for detailed cell analysis/lpgging. When you've got five grandds worth of aircraft in the air, you want your cells well protected.

I'm running a build now that is quite frankly stupidly low, there's as much resistance in the atty centre post as in the coils, it's still laughing at it. Frankly, I'm finding it hard to go back to li ion cells, theres just no comparison in performance, at any resistance.

I know it shouldn't come into it, especially with the added safety but what's the price of charger and a couple of batteries?

Your probably looking at the thick end of fifty quid for a charger and a couple of packs. Thats on the cheap from hobby king. I would strongly advise calling into ypur local rc shop for a chat though, see what they carry.

If you do go on hobby king, its worth knowing that if ypu linger on an item long enough you'll get offered it at a cheaper price. I'd look on one machine then once you've taken notes and decided what you want go to another machine to do your ordering. Once I'm ready I'll be doing a full shopping list with links and build guide.
