Right i will start off by saying i am not responsible for any injuries occurring from carry out this mod.
Kit required:
- 2.5mm Allen Key
- Single/Double sided foam
OR
- File and sandpaper
Now that is out of the way. I received my Firebox 50W this morning and found within 5 minutes of getting it all set up i had a button issue. This was that the fire button felt stuck, and pressing the - or + buttons would fire the atty.
Upon taking it apart i found that they had used a small rubber pad to keep pressure on the board.
First of all i tried to file a little bit off the pillar on the back cover, however when i realised this was going to take a long time with the kit i have (deal with electronics, so only keep fine paper stock).
Foam option - I decided to try by replacing the pad with a little bit of double sided foam.
File option - I do reckon if you were to file down the pillar bit by bit you could get it to a point where you could use the stock rubber pad and not use the foam.
After doing this i took the rubber pad out and just used the foam, i now have correctly functioning buttons.
One other side effect i noticed after doing this was that i could now screw my bottle in completely flush, it seems the pressure being applied to the board may have been taken it out on the body, and slightly misaligned the bottle tube.
Please let me know if this is of any use to anyone as i have quite a collection of fixes/bodges to get kit working. (mostly related to the industry i work in, but im not mentioning that here)
